It doesn't matter.
Remote digital telemetry has us all now.
Think about it.

That's why most drag cars still run old school 3 speed auto's & power glides due to not needing OD. 1:1 with a 3.45 gear should get you well into the 120's @ the track before hitting the limiter.

I read a lot of your stuff, you talk a good talk, but now I'm starting to question your practical car knowledge & how much you really know about the aspects of drag racing, or cars all together??

Your remark that I quoted really seems more like trolling than being informative. I guess I'm going to have to check with some of my friends with GT500's and see what their cars do in 4th. If you look at my sig, that list of cars is not what I have owned, it's what I own at this time, & I've been building and racing cars for going on 26 years now. I feel secure in my knowledge base & don't spend my time trolling ford forums trying to point out what I feel is wrong with their cars as you do with the new Camaros.
Dude, maybe you misread his post. He's saying that the car will hit the 155mph limiter in fourth gear because of the gearing. He's not trolling, he's just saying the gearing is too tall, which most everyone here agrees with.

GU5 gearing in the 98-02 4th gens with 6 speeds was 3.42 no one was crying about those gears back then? And when a cobra owner uses POOR in conjunction with GM cars it usually has negative connotations.

If you have been building "race cars" for 26 years, you would know that tire height has a huge impact on overall gearing. The difference in overall gearing of a 4th gen to a 5th gen is immense, smart guy.

And there is no way of sugar coating the fact that the 5th gen has POOR overall gearing. It's 4th gear is taller than some car's 5th gear, it's almost LIKE it has 3 regular gears and 3 overdrives.

And 4th gear will hit the limiter (155 mph).

Read my post next time.

In my 04 STi, I had to be shift into 5th gear right before the 1/4 mile mark (yes 5th gear before 100mph). Having to shift into 5th gear right around 100mph really slowed down my 1/4 mile times.
But I guess Subaru wasn't thinking about 1/4 mile times when they planned their gearing?

I've had mine to 170 with the removal of the electronically-limited top speed instrumentation. Oh wait, I just woke up, damn, still don't have my Camaro.

Top Gun- I've been waiting for my car since January and I finally got it this week. I don't think you will be waiting anywhere near as long as me, and several guys have waited even longer than me.

Whats your point though? Overdrive isn't going to help it go any faster. It would bring the RPM's down but at those speeds the car won't really be able to get much more speed out of it.

I don't know where your getting at with all this. Whats your point?

The OP was surprised that he hit 116 and he was barely in 4th. I said the gearing sucks bad enough to where it will hit the limiter in 4th (it'll do over 160 if it were possible).
