PROS For Both
ZL1: Looks better IMO
ZL1: Better Creature comforts/insulation,etc
ZL1: More Power
ZL1: can come in auto (if you care)
ZL1: Considerably less money

Z28: Lighter
Z28: Parts of the car look better, but nothing you cant add later imo
Z28: LS7 is bad ass, and better for certain applications, (but shops are less inclined to throw a ton of power on an LS7 over a LSA) If you plan to mod the engine.

Conclusion: The Z28 ONLY has a weight advantage, and a couple of unique parts that look good. The ZL1 beats it every where else, better all around looks, more power, more creature comforts.

The Z28 is more expensive, take the price difference, and you will KILL a Z28 with a ZL1 with some simple suspension and weight saving mods. I still dont see why anyone would buy a Z28.

You can get the base with an SS, buy an LS7 block, add better internals, put a blower on if you want, get a full pfadt or pedders suspension, good wheels and tires, take whatever you want out of the interior, rebuild the trans, rear end, etc.

And I bet you still come under the Z28 price wise, with a better car. The Z28 is great, but its almost like the COPO, yes its cool to have it from the factory, and its exclusive. But for a true racer, its a no brainer to build yourself.

The ZL1 is a great bang for your buck car, but there are a ton of SS's with a blower or even just cam/heads/bolt ons, with suspension mods, wheels and tires that can take a ZL1 for less money.

You've got the SS already, so you could modify that.. but you know that already. ZL1, see those all the time..great but..

you probably already know the answer!

Z / 28

First, I love your embracement of the name Fogey...

As far as the cars, 2 different animals my man. I personally think it's way cool that they are building a 427 Camaro again. Would I like to have a Z/28? Heck yes. Would I trade my ZL1 for a Z/28? No. I love my car. As daily drivers go its got everything I want. In your shoes saying you might want either, it's a tough choice.

The ZL1 is a bad*** car, really enjoyable. But if you really are into autocross a little, Fbodfather told me, in person, in regards to autocross "That's where the Z/28 is going to shine."

Like I said, tough choice, I don't think you can go wrong, good luck.

Ever since getting the Maggie on the SS, I'm a huge fan of forced induction! Stock for stock, the ZL1 has more power. Who doesn't want more power?

My concern that muscle cars may be going the way of dinosaurs thanks to the Feds and this may be my last chance to buy a road rocket with that V8 sound.
I'll keep you posted on what I decide to do. Anyway, thanks again.

If dominating at the track is your goal then the Z/28 is your car.

If having the most unique car is your goal the Z/28 is your car.

If you want celebrity status the Z/28 is your car.

If you need an automatic then ZL1 is your car.

If you want a convertible the ZL1 is your car.

If you want to spend less money the ZL1 is your car.

If you don't want to wait the ZL1 is your car.

If you don't want to pay over MSRP the ZL1 is your car.

For the money, consider the new Vette too

Finally, send me a PM about how I can become you
