I leave for work at 5am every morning. The drive is pretty awesome except in many area's its pretty dark and you have to watch for unmarked police cars waiting to get you. The other cool thing is driving by the airport and having the planes fly over in complete darkness.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

Thoroughly enjoyable read Scott! Yeah, you know you need to write a book. It would be fun to speculate on the title. I'll throw a few out there to get the ball rolling:

"On a Clear Day You Can See My Tail Lights"

"Have Sharpie, Will Travel"

"To Serve Mustangs" (It's a cookbook!)

Having grown up in and around Lansing, I've traveled those freeways many times. In a red Camaro no less (a severely rusted '69). My father designed many parts of those roads in his days with the Michigan State Highway Department. I'm pretty proud of that fact, and consider them his memorial; an epitaph written in dashed lines and reflective green signs that spans an entire state.
Reading your story brought back memories of traveling those highways on a Summer night. My favorite was to outrun building thunderstorms. Nature's light show flashing in the billowing cloud tops. Fireflies answering in the swamps below. Windows down, the warm humid air in my face. Radio cranked to be heard over the glass-pack mufflers. Yeah, I miss Michigan. There's a good reason Bob Seger mentions Southern Michigan Summertime in the live version of Night Moves. When combined with the right car, it's magical. There's nothing like it!
