just a sec...I went back and looked at the original post after someone said it was 'shears' which it now is obvious that it is one half a pair of scissors....

then I noticed you said it was 'all the way in the tire' are you saying that when you got to the shop that the tire was flat and you couldn't see anything that was obviously 'sticking out' of the tire? (was the metal 'flush' with the tire surface?...like when you get a nail in the tire and the head is gone and the shaft is flush with the tread surface...)

Those scissors looke pretty beat up...if they were 'laying' on the shop floor and your tire was the first one to drive over them...I don't see how both the scissor handle would have broken off and the metal gotten so scarred.

It's not looking like it's the shop's fault...just some asshat that lost a pair of scissors on the road and you're bearing the cost. :( That really sucks.

hey man sorry to hear your issue.but it truly does just happen sometimes,i work at firestone as a tech and we see it everyday, they should have been able to tell you from the get go it was too big to be repaired but hey some sales guys dont know, weve pulled everything from 12inch adj wrenches out of tires to parts of deer antlers and ive always said damn youd think youd see that before hitting it but they dont,id still be weary of how it got there after you left something that big you would of heard slapping the road, you can never prove it but we all know those guys went for a trip around the block and picked up some debri in the tire again im very sorry for your loss but it happens, also bridgestone set to come out with new potenza im upgrading my pirellis since the road hazard will only be 25 bucks a tire hehe

Plugs I am aware of noone who would plug a tire like that

What an ordeal.........something to consider although I am not 100% sure is correct but I read that within a certian time period you can purchase road hazard insurance with whomever makes the tires.............something to look into given the cost of those things

Good job on the scissors call. It actually looks like the blade from a pair of hedge clippers to me. That sharp edge on the wider side is for cutting bigger branches. SInce you are an officer who attends trials all the time, you probably realize it's all hindsight by now. It's your word against the stereo shop's and I would have to lean on them not being brave/stupid enough to do something like that on purpose just because you changed your mind, regardless at what point through the install. I'm not saying to be naive about it, but my gut instinct is that something like that would not be used to retaliate. They could have done many things for you to find later, why would they choose that in other words. I'm thinking you simply ran over those on the roadway. I wouldn't give them an apology, but I would just suck it up and move on. My insurance deductible is always too high to even think about claiming a tire plus you risk them raising your rates after any kind of claim. Don't shoot yourself in the foot with that. Just move on and be glad that episode wasn't worse than what it already was.
The price of these tires really bites for the short treadlife they probably get from not being able to rotate them. Eventually, I will want to see a thread on the mileage done on the tires and the better deals owners are finding on different tires. Hopefully, tire rack dot com will eventually have a selection for us to pick from for this car.

What kind of insurance do you need to cover them, and roughly how much does it cost?
Are you new to Pierlli's? Overpriced and simply do not last. Yes, if you get away with paying less than $2300.00 for all 4 tires, you are lucky indeed. Cost me almost $1000.00 to replace two front 19" Pirelli's on my Cobalt SS/SC.

If the knife was Chinese, I can only imagine it was a jealous WRX owner. Damn ricers....

TAG, you gotta get insurance man. When I bought my 2SS, I thought it was a gimmick, but I paid $1500.00, I believe, for 5 Year tire insurance for incidents like this. Do yourself a favor and get it done bro.

If you have any friends that are lawyers, get them to send a signed letter to the shop. That'll likely light a fire under their butts.

532.00 for one tire. 1164.00 for two. (It was a rear tire obviously by the price.) TWO. Fronts are a little cheaper but THIS is why I'm not coming off my stock MS tires and rims for less than 2 grand. I'd take 1500.00

My best freind is a Trooper here in Alabama. It very well could have had something to do with it. I wouldn't completely rule out that you may have run over it in advance. Just sayin', I drove 18 wheelers for 10 years and I've seen some things that still baffle me, go into tires from the road. I actually had the handle half of a baseball bat get me. Wasn't a whole lot left but just enough to confirm that's what it was. My dad pulled a railroad tie from the wheel of his truck. The odd factor here would be that it went flat later but it is plausible for that to happen when the tire cooled of a bit.

Tag don't flame me man. I think the odds are that you're an officer that pissed someone off and they got their pay back. (if you can call it that) But the former is possible.

Screw that. Make up your own letter and business card, put your number on the card. Staple them together and send them. Worked wonders for me.

1) You know that the 20" tires are very expensive, and should have purchased insurance.

2) Yes, you can get something like that in your tire while driving. In fact it would be impossible to put that knife in there backwards the way it is, even if you wanted to. I would say it can't happen at parking lot speeds, but it can happen. Check out the picture below, I drove over that wrench at about 35 MPH. And it's a double open end wrench. You wouldn't know if you ran over the knife becuase it immediately went flush with the outside of the tire.

3) The tire could probably be patched, but since it's rated at a zillion MPH, it's a liability for the tire place should you kill yourself later when it blows.

4) Blaming the audio company is childish. You ran over a big knife at some point, parked at their place and it went flat.

5) Isn't this the same car that you let have the tires burned off by some yahoos who were supposed to put on an exhaust? That's where I would have directed my anger if I were you.
1.) No one ever offered road hazard insurance when I bought the car. I didn't think of it as I got Gap Insurance and have full coverage from USAA. It wasn't something that crossed my mind when buying the car. My fault. But, if I can get it now, I would....lesson to all! Buy the road hazard insurance!

It ran $475 from GM for the tire. Discount tire has the tire priced at $394, but you have to add in all the other fees, balancing, etc and you get right back up to $475 (I'll buy it from Discount next time, but they actually have to have them in stock for that...

Also, I don't know who you get the road hazard from...maybe GM? I'll find out, though.

Yeah...I'm surprised we'd name call here too. I'd also bet he'd be pissed too and not sit there on his @ss and just say, "Oh, it's okay. My car might have been fine when I dropped it off, but you can give it back to me with a flat tire...it's okay! Cause I'm such a swell, nice guy!"

And TAG, why are you taking your car to Custom Sounds to get this stuff done? They are notorious for over-charging customers for EVERYthing.

That whole experience sucks man. You'll have to come out to Biff's tonight and vent
YEP! They ARE scizzors! Dayum, man....I was wondering.

I know the manager from Custom Sounds and he's worked with me several times in the past. All the prices were laid out for me on the install. I know exactly what I was paying for and it was agreeable to me. I had no idea the other stuff was going to happen. I would NOT have made a huge fuss if I had road hazard. THEY ALSO SAID THEY WOULD HAVE PAID IF IT WERE A NAIL, SCREW, OR RAZOR BLADE. So, both of us are cool at getting it repaired...but neither of us want to pay the $500. And like the manager who drove my car said, he would have noticed it if he ran over something. Well?...I WOULD HAVE TOO!

Listen...I'm an honest person. Had I done it...or had I known it happened while I was driving, I would have been on it right off the bat and gotten the tire ordered, fixed, etc and paid for without any hassle or question. I repeat...the tire was FINE when I dropped it off.

I'm going to look into the insurance. Let this be a lesson to all!!!

The tire "could" be plugged. It is VERY possible that the plug would not hold over the life of the tire. I was told there was no way they would do over 100....not that I'm going to be doing that regularly, but if I take it OUT TO THE TRACK....BAM! And into a wall......

So....

Discount would attempt to repair it, but they said they "strongly recommend replacing the tire." No one MADE me replace it. I did it myself seeing as though I don't want to DIE and leave my wife and kids behind because I was "cheap."

I'm leaning towards this too....

The guys come off really nice. But, like some people on this board, it doesn't matter "who you are," but rather that you simply wear a badge and they automatically assume that you are an ass and want to screw you like they got screwed in the past.

It all comes down to we pay for our own mistakes on that one. I've already told people about the numerous tickets I got before I got on the department and how it kept me ineligible from being hired for 3 YEARS. Yeah...it ticks people off. But, it's possible someone took out their anger on me for their own wrong doing.

Well, while it sucks this happened to your baby, on the plus side I can bet every Camaro5 member that read this thread will be getting road hazard on their tires, first thing! I know I am now
