For a car with a total production run of only 69, the enthusiast magazines of the era took notice. Super Stock was the first, featuring the #1 car in full AHRA trim, and another of Gibb's, believed to be #5, in the May 1969 issue. The street version ran an incredible 11.64/122 mph with open headers and small 6-1/2 inch slicks. The #1 car ran 10.29/132 mph.

I purposely posted this for you Sven59. If your talking lap times the new ZL1 would eat an old one, I was just referring to straight line speed. The 69 COPO was rare, but it was production......

I'm just having fun

That's what I thought, Camaros can now turn but Mustangs still can only go straight! I want me one of those 69's but I know I could never afford one. I was thinking of maybe doing a mod to a 69 Camaro with the modern ZL1 driveline underneath. Then I could call it a ZL1.

Great idea for a pro-touring car.

Think you should also tell Sven59 that the GT500 had a quicker lap time around Laguna Seca during last years best drivers car comp?

where is the GT500's Nurburing time? We know they ran it and then there was lightning lap.

Lightning lap was performed by hipster journalists in skinny jeans. I put my trust in Randy Pobst.

Nurburing? almost every review that said the GT 500's brakes were inadequate and because of the axle it couldn't get all of its hp to the wheels. My guess it is why they went for such a high hp increase to make up for its shortcomigs in the driveline.

There is nothing wrong with being old skool, it just doesn't make you more of a man. I'm not looking to pick a fight, but I catch $H!T all the time for having an automatic, but no one with a manual will race me. Technology is making those 'old skool' manuals a thing of the past. You can like for the sake of rememberance but they don't stand a chance against some autos or any of the DCTs. The automatic transmission of today is making the performance car almost suitable for any driver, including newbies like myself. Just think, you got guys on this forum in autos that are relatively new to the strip, smoking seasoned vets with their "old skool" manuals. You keep your nastalgia, I'll keep the money I win on the strip. Fair enough?

I'm putting down over 700rwhp and I love it. Just add a little more power and it is one fun car.

Since you claim to win on the strip, what's your best run to date?

I never thought the words would would come out of my mouth but for now I'm happy with 800 whp. It is crazy..... and scary at times.. and I haven't got to the point where I mash the gas without reflexively saying OMG!!! Maybe I will get used to it some day but I hope not...

Then again if 800 whp is this fun I wonder what 850 would feel like?....

you dreaming if you you think an as delivered 69 ZL1 camaro would hold a candle to the ZL1.

they did not come from the facotry with open headers and slicks.

The ZL1 is hands down the fastest production car by a good margin.

everbody always factors in the times after people got ahold of them and added headers and put slicks on.

You have exactly the kind of power I would luv to have! If you have to stop to consider the consequences before mashing the go pedal, you know you have just enough power.
