I loved racing various vehicles knowing I was going to lose, simply because it was fun anyway. I think there are still quite a few out there that are after the same thing. They may not all want to race you, some just want to hear an awesome car take off.
The first car I was driving around, I did the same, just for fun.

Of course, I was driving an 80's Plymouth Laser....

x10000 I think a good part of the owners forget that its just a Camaro. Your driving a car that is mass produced, thousands of them are fleet cars at rental car places. The 16 year old next door drives..i could go on and on. Yes you can feel like you spent a lot of money for your car, it can be your special weekend only car etc etc, but in the end its no different than the pos car was when it was new.

Its just a Camaro, heck the guy might of just been hoping to hear the sound of a V8 rev back at him, maybe he just drives like 90% of us here and took off with a little throttle.

Just food for thought. I have a beater too and I'm very much a car enthusiast. Enthusiasts choose to say hello in many different ways, one of them is reving their engines while next to you.

I love this forum, but that topic is about as old and beat to death as the V6 v. V8 argument, or the stick v. auto.
What argument? I thought evreyone knew v8's were better?? Oh they don't? Let me enlighten evreyone!.... :P

I normally won't race any of those P.O.S. civics...but I have embarrassed a few! One time I beat one and had 3 people + Myself in the car and he was alone by himself! Weighing probably 2,000lbs less than me! I don't know how they drive those things and act like they're in a lambo lol! The sound that comes from the exhaust is horrid!

So.... you street raced with 3 passengers in your car?

Well, at least now I know what's less irresponsible than a street race.

I know when I am the front car at a light, I often use it as a time to practice a good launch. You know what I mean, not slipping the tires too much and getting the to hook well with out pulling the engine down. I am doing this to get better at driving my car, and it does not matter if there is a car next to me or not, but after reading this, I wonder if those other people think I am trying to race them. I hope not, but I also wonder if some of these supposed races are a result of some young guy trying to get better with his car, and not really caring that you are there. Again, its just a thought. BTW, the only car that I have tried to launch hard against was a fellow Camaro guy in a ZL1. We both were just having fun, and I imagine his GF/wife was a pissed at him as my wife was at me. All in the name of fun, and no speed laws were broken. BTW, the extra 150 or so horsepower was a big help to him!

Understandable, street racing is stupid even if you are alone. More so when you have passengers.
People need to be careful of their posts in this thread, remember street racing stories are against forum rules.

A hard controlled launch that does not get into excessive speed is not the same as a street race, and is still often enough to see who has the better car. Lets not assume that it was a full on race....maybe just like 0 - 50 in a 50 mph zone. No harm there in my opinion.

Back when I was a little wilder, I had a $100 car that I bought just to thrash. That's how us good ol' boys do it. Anyhow, I wanted to roll this one over onto its roof, an '82 Monte Carlo. Figured my friends, generally wiser than me, would try to warn me of the dangers of such a stunt. Instead, everybody I mentioned the plan to wanted in on the ride. I ended up rolling that car with three passengers, in addition to me, in that car.

It was a blast, everybody enjoyed the ride. Wasn't a high speed flip or anything, just sort of ran it up a steep bank, at an angle, until it rolled over.

Nobody hurt, we all crawled out of the upside down heap. Used a winch and a chain to put it back on all fours, used an awesome GM- Hi- Jacker jack to push the roof back into place, kicked out the remaining glass, replaced a little oil, and kept on running!
