I do not blame GM. It's this lawyer crap I can not stand. I would say not one person was killed by a key shutting off, lawyers just look for deep pockets to get money. Car turns fine with out power steering brakes work also. What about in the 40s those cars were hard to turn and brake. If your car key was off and you do not have the brains to turn it back on, you should just walk and not drive.

Yea, then I could just handle this on my own at a local dealer and he could absolve himself of the responsibility of performing this update. No thanks.
Take that dealer up on that offer (back date) and just NEVER bring it in to have the recall done. That way you can keep the switchblade and not get a tore-up car !

From motor trend:

2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro
The Problem: A driver's knee can bump the key fob and cause the key to inadvertently move out of the "run" position, leading to a complete shutdown of the vehicle's electronics, including the airbags. The issue was discovered after internal testing following the ignition switch recall. Although this case sounds similar to the ignition switch recall, GM says the ignition system in the Camaro is unrelated to the system used in the millions of Cobalts and other cars previously recalled. GM believes this issue is related to three crashes that resulted in minor injuries

The Fix: GM will change the Camaro key to a standard design. In the current design, the key is concealed in the fob, but GM is changing the design so that the two can be independent of each other so that contact with the key fob won't accidentally move they key from the "run" position.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 464,712 2010-2014 Camaros in the U.S.; 511,528 in Canada and Mexico in addition to exports.

Oh but they won't do a recall on the electric assist steering that turns off. Makes no sense to me. There is a video on YouTube that shows a guy actually hitting his knee on the switchblade key and turning the car off. But he really has to lift his leg up and try hard to do it.

I guess my legs are too short and my belly too big because I can't even get my knee to even touch the fob..,

So if I were to bring in my Camaro for one of my free scheduled oil changes/service, would they force this recall on me? If I plainly stipulate that I do not want that recall but I bring them the car for another reason would they hold it or push this recall on me?

BTW the hold is because they are waiting on special ordered laser cut keys for every car that's already assembled and/or sitting on dealer lots. Other tasks are to change the part so the factory can start putting the preferred ones in, then recalling all the previously sold models.

I haven't received a recall notice, I learned of this issue from an email I received yesterday.

So say its 14 days or more, you got a private offer and the current $1500 rebate and all is void after the recall, then in July no rebates and no private offer. Since gm put the Camaro on hold , then the rebates should be still good.
