I prefer to do my own oil changes any way . I can do it faster and with better oil. I do have a shop with 2 lifts so it's no big deal . IMHO if you want something done right ,and you know what your doing you do it yourself . This doe's not apply to sex .

Oil change completed! However, the original service adviser (the one that told me no), passed me off to another service adviser. No issues, he probably didn't want to face me. The new adviser was very good. He said all 2014's get the free service regardless of the miles or oil life indicator. As if the Service Manager talked to all of them.

So lets just say anybody else going to Folsom Chevrolet will not have a problem in the future. They can thank Camaro 5 members for that one!

I swear this is the like sixth thread on this I've seen in last month or two or something. GM dealers man! You know, I had same issue while back. Was told no oil change until 7000 miles or OLM is at 20%. I wanted it done at 1000 or so. Had to go through BBB, GM support direct, and calls from/to dealer to get appointment for my oil change. Just the APPOINTMENT. FOR AN OIL CHANGE! Finally had to do it myself because they were telling me it would take up to two hours on the day it was arranged. Oh **** that! Did it myself.

Really all the hassle over an oil change, an automotive equivalent of going "number two". God forbid car needed actual warranty work. Pretty much tells you what dealers to avoid, if not brands altogether.

I don't think the service dept cares about customer satisfaction any longer,,, I remember the days when the customer request was more important than their pathetic bottom line profit.

Good for you for doing your own maintenance, this way is the only way to know the work was done right,, even if you don't know how to do the work get a friend to help you

2 oil/filter changes per year

When we bought our '14 i asked the SERVICE MANAGER this direct question - "Do i have to have a certain number of miles on the car or does the oil life monitor HAVE to be at a certain percentage to receive the free oil/filter changes for the two years"? His answer - "NO. You get 4 oil/filter changes over a period of two years. Two per year whenever you want them".

Sounds like some people have been lied to, their dealer is not up on current events or doesn't care.

I knew I had free oil changes for 2 years with a limit of 3 or 4 I was told. I said at purchase I'll never get to that many because this is a weekend car. It is 5+ months old and has 2,900 miles on it. I wanted to get the first oil change out of the way. I show up for my appt. and service adviser says GM won't pay for the oil change until it is down to 20% of service life. Mine is at 62% (per the computer). By my math (could be questionable) I can't get my first oil change until the car is about 11 months old with 6,000 miles on it (at the current rate I am driving it). I can't imagine guys that have to park it over the winter and use it on weekends only, who knows how long it would take them.

So, my question, is the dealer not wanting to do this oil change or is GM really not giving you the oil change until you get to 20%?

BTW, the service adviser had not heard of the Camaro Key Fob recall.

that is crazy, I went in to change oil on my 14 1ls at 2000 miles and offered to pay and they said NO! you get 4 free. they did not care about miles. i am old school and believe in getting the first oil change early to clean out all the manufacturing debris.

I just went in for my first service under scheduled maintenance and my dealer also said the "you get 4, use them whenever you want". My car had 89% left on the OLM. They didn't blink an eye when I told them to change it.

Guess I'm lucky. I didn't complain.
