You can ask Wayne Watson. He has gotten very similar numbers

I thought all SS's had 3.45 rears, and in that case I can tell you that the final drive ratios of the SS and the 1LE are nearly identical. Keep in mind that the 1LE transmission is geared differently than the regular SS. I am not sure of the situation of a your car with 3.21 rears, and if they are matched to the same transmissions that the SS's with 3.45 rears, then that might explain the mileage.

I get anywhere from 8 to 9 L/100km (about 26 to 29.5 US mpg) in my pretty much stock SS (has NPP exhaust and CAI) on the highway. No hills here and cruising at around 110 km/h. In the city I only get around 14.5 to 16 L/100km (15 to 16 US mpg), but I'm a little heavier on the foot in the city.

Ok! Well I am not calling you out saying you are not getting what you are claiming, and if so, then more power to you. Fuel is expensive, and saving it is not a bad deal. There is a time and a place where it does not matter (like when you are playing), but rolling down the highway, I want to get all that I can!

A stock manual transmission SS has 3.45* gears
A stock automatic transmission SS has 3.27* gears * I'm not talking ZL1s, 1LEs, etc.... just the base SS engines.

If the SS gets 29 MPG highway then I get 99.9
because you must be pressing reset once you're going 80 MPH and then dropping it neutral -__- |

Agreed 100%. The only way an SS is gonna average anywhere near 30 is resetting at top highway speed then snapping a picture instantly of your speed reading. These SS's were not made to be Volts. Anyone claiming normal mileage in this range is only fooling themselves.

At 110 km/h (~70 mph), my SS sits at only about 1500 rpm in 6th gear, so good fuel economy while cruising isn't that surprising. |

The best I ever got was about 26 MPG, that was cruising on the highway about 73mph with the cruise on and decreasing elevation (coming down from the foot hills).
On the way up to the same location I average right around 24. My brother has a 2010 SS and gets pretty much the same. Mixed driving I average about 19mpg. no way I could get 30mpg, unless I reset it while i'm cruising down the highway, but that isn't realistic. I only reset it right after I fill up each tank. I also usually don't pay it much attention until my tank is almost done, it needs to be an average to be accurate.

What is this MPG thing you speak of? Do I have that on My car? If so can I program it out?

He is right, all you Nay Sayers out there. When I was stock, and added a RotoFab intake, zero exhaust done, I was getting 26-28 MPG hwy for several months with my 2SS L99. Added exhaust and tune, dropped it to 24-26. Now that I have my S/C, I get about 21-23 MPG hwy. And that was from Indy to Houston for the CamaroFest.
Along with others, just the nature of the beast. I know if I added a cam, it would probably drop to about 18 mpg. If I want a car that gets 35 mpg, I will get a little 4 banger and enjoy. |
