Ford may have built the Mustang since 1964 but Chevy has been perfecting IRS since 1963. Ford knew the mark and missed so congrats to the 1LE

This may have been the fairest comparison of these two cars I have seen. Having driven both the GT and SS before I bought, I can concur with the results in the video being the SS handled better but, I am no track expert.

Makes me all warm and fuzzy knowing that the new revamped mustang with more horsepower... doesnt quite trounce my last years 1LE.

Yes, Ford is closing the gap on Chevy, but they are still looking at the back bumper.

Make to add 1LE to that description as a standard SS does not.

On a side note why do some of you continue to act like anyone should be surprised by these results? Aside from having yet to hear Probst give any Mustang credit where it's due it's track car versus performance upgrade car. None of you will ever drive good enough to set the cars apart so who cares?

wow I'm not sure of Ford's thinking, unless they're holding back for the 2016 Camaro? which doesn't make sense. I certainly hope chevy doesn't follow suite and make the same capabilities in the 6th gen.. Great vid's thanks for posting

I love that -the 1LE is 90% of the Z/28. :-) I also loved the side by side track comparison. Looks like Ford did not do that great of a job with the "track edition" enhancements. But the brakes are good. That is one thing I wish GM would have improved on the 1LE by now...

I wouldn't say none, there are a handful of people that track their cars and push them pretty hard.

I wouldn't be shocked if the 2015 GT PP edged out the 1LE, I mean it should. It's a brand new car with about the same power as the 1LE, weigh's slightly less and now has IRS. The 1LE has been out for a few years now, Ford knew what the competition was running. This was Ford's battle to lose.

This could be a repeat of the ZL1 & GT500. The 2012 ZL1 comes out with more power than the (then) GT500, only to be out done by the 2013 GT500. Also, Ford came out with the new body style Mustang in 2010 but with the old engine, then in 2011 they dropped in the 5.0 So really I wouldn't be surprised if Ford waits a year to see what Chevy does with the 6th gen.

Not all that expensive to DIY and upgrade to CTS/V brakes!

So let's recap. Slower than S197 in a straight line and slower than the outgoing Camaro around a track.

I say the exact opposite. It is unfair to compare the newest tech to something several years old. The Mustang is newer, has more power, is lighter and costs $5,000 more. Yet it lost. Hmm

I looked at the Camaro and the Mustang as cars to build on and make handle well, one of many reasons I'm still glad I went with the Camaro.

I think there is still hope for the Ford guys as that GT350 looks and sounds like a killer. Now that will be up against a Z/28 and not a 1LE.
The Mustang PP is not a track oriented 1LE, this is also a car that just debuted in comparison to a car that has been worked since 2009 (1LE).
it does come with bigger tires but not at the same level as what the 1LE has:
255/275 Pirelli P Zero vs 285 square setup goodyear supercar

I had pirelli P zeros they are SHIT, only way i would EVER go back to pirelli is for some Trofeo R tires during the summer.

Not making excuses for the mustang, the better car on the track won. I said this in another thread but Ford dropped the ball on this mustang. I also said maybe they are holding back and waiting to see what GM does with the 6th Gen.
