Back in 2008 I was within 30 min of buying a G8 GT (using the same money I would use to get my Camaro the next year). They were visually catching, a great option and competitor for the Charger and frankly the superior in many ways. There are a number of reasons I didn't end up getting one, not the least of which was a super shady dealer who pulled the rug out from under me at the 11th hour. For me what made the G8 GT such a great bargain was the price point, starting in 2008 at $29,995. Adjusted for inflation that is $32,980. That's Charger R/T territory today. The SS is not a bargain, at all, at $45,000 starting. Frankly The SS felt more like a F*** YOU from Chevy to the fans who were screaming for a RWD V8 sedan. They brought over a great car, loaded it up, put it at a price point that a lot of people are not interested in, gave it a bland exterior, gave it a GG tax and made it so dealers could easily charge ADM's because it's "limited production" and difficult to get a hold of. The G8 GT model was one that could have made Chevrolet a competitor in the full size, RWD market. Instead we got the absurdly and asininely named "SS" which only a few people even know about, even less want to buy and a fraction of those can get. In my opinion as a car the SS is great, as a product and program from GM it is a dismal failure. The numbers may not agree with me, that's fine, I don't give a rip. |

That's just it, it has been skinned. When I say cosmetic, I mean it would have been nice to keep the original lines of the G8's sheet metal and revise the front and rear fascia. I actually prefer the lines of the G8 much more than I do Chevy SS. I feel like they washed a lot of the aggressiveness out of the look of the car.

The closest would be the Hyundai Genesis Sedan, but when equipped the way the SS is equipped it's a much more expensive sedan. The same w/ the SRT Charger 392. It's ten grand more than the SS when equipped the same way, plus the SS is a better all around car. I'm not sure why you referenced the Charger R/T? The R/T is now in the same class the G8 GT was but is far behind the SS. The Scat Pack is on par w/ the SS as it relates to performance but it's stripped down w/o being much less money. BTW, you don't honestly think GM controls the way independent dealer franchises operate, right? They'll (dealers) mark up anything b/c we are in a free market economy. Lastly, GM doesn't place a GG taxes on anything, the government does that. 99% of the C5.com members chief complaint on the 5th gen Camaro were skip shift and AFM, I can't think of anyone that liked GM's attempt at avoiding the GG tax.

If someone likes a SS better than a hellcat how does that make them crazy or a fan boy? Some will draw to either one even if it has a 1000hp.

personally i would love an SS and a hellcat charger. im in the minority that actually likes how the SS looks. and i also like how the hellcat looks...not to mention the numbers. i mean 700 hp and over 200 mph?! i dont need either for a track car...thats not what their for. if you want a track car, a 4 door sedan isnt the obvious choice.

Now your talking! I saw a CTS wagon today and commented to my wife how sweet a CTS-V wagon would be as a daily driver.

He definitely wasn't pushing it as hard as he could. Should have shifted in higher gears in the corners to prevent wheel spin.

I would think if he was a gear higher he could get more throttle without wheel spin. However I never raced at a autocross so I could be mistaken.

I'm sure he has me beat. I would be as good at his profession as he would be mine. Just In my experience I go a gear higher is situations where I would spin excessively.
