http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/..._shelby_gt500/ "After three rounds, the winner, by a closer margin than we ever expected, is the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. On the street and on the track, its solid chassis, well-controlled body motions, planted suspension, and unshakeable confidence edged it over the more powerful Shelby." Car and Driver http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...on-test-review "More than the GT500, the ZL1 aggressively lifts the bar, proving that big American muscle can venture beyond sheer horsepower and drag-strip numbers and into the realm of the sports car." Automobile Magazine http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews..._shelby_gt500/ "From an on-track perspective there is no contest. For this year, at least, the victory well and truly belongs to the ZL1. Its handling capabilities far exceed the straight-line advantage owned by the Shelby. " There are more...but this should do... |

Just say, "It's a Camaro." It works when Batman says, "I'm Batman." It is a valid response to any argument.

Well, that's your view, but even back in 1970, US made muscle cars were getting comments about handling, and in a good way, from car mags. Cars like the '70 Trans Am. Then there was Shelby American, making road course cars like the Cobra 289 and 427 for competition. Sports car racing was very much active alive and well in the '60s in the US. Lotus Super 7s were popular in the US for racing. So were Porsches. Grand Sport Corvettes were made. Camaro z/28s. The Mustang GT350R. GT40s. Chaparrals. Dan Gurney's All American racers (AAR 'Cuda) and Anglo-American Racers (Gurney-Weslake F1 Eagle; see sig pic). And that's just from 45 to 50 years ago. SCCA, Trans Am...your personal view is "this is America 1/4 mile is what matters". OK. But tell the folks at Watkins Glen.

To summarize, stock vs stock, 2013, 2014 gt500 wins at the drag strip, road racing track belongs to the zl1. Furthermore, you might remind your friend that modding the zl1 for power is a much cheaper option than modifying the gt 500 to handle, and in fact there is no IRS mod for the gt500 and no magnetic ride suspension.

Negativity? I did not say anything negative, just being realistic. The '13 GT500 is a more potent STREET car than the ZL1. There is no getting around it, same with the Challenger Hellcat. All you guys that are telling the OP to start spewing times from Motortrend and Car & Driver are steering him in the wrong direction....must be an age thing though.

I think we all know how they are going to respond. They are going to start with LT1...eventually have a model with the LT4. At least the car will be lighter which will help.
