You won't even be able to get a Hyundai Genesis coupe witha 300hp V-6 for 23k. The V-6 Mustang is just under 20k but the V-6 Camaro will compare at least hp-wise to the GT which starts at 26k (both of which have a live rear axle and probably a cheaper interior), split the difference and you have 23k.

I'm just trying to be realistic also GM is positioning this as a performance car not a muscle car so it needs to turn and brake as well and can't have an interior on par with playskool.

i'm just saying that it is disappointing that the car is going to be just out of my reach... i have a few vacations planned for summer 2009 anyways... so maybe if i can save enough money i can get it by the time summer 2010 comes around... but probably not right at launch. once again this is assuming this is correct... i'm going to keep the faith though (has our request for a smilie been registered?)

I will say this, I don't care if its the price of a Corvette, show me a stock camaro capable of 0-60 times in the upper 3 sec. range. I willl buy it immediately.

It may not be a camaro, but did you forget about the ZR-1? 100(more possibly) HP per 6.2 liters... i think that'll end up in the 3.x 0-60 mph times... it is going to ~5.36 lb/hp so i think this thing will hang with the GT-R for a little while... maybe not on the Ring, but maybe another track...

No doubt the ZR-1 will be competitive wiht GT-R. From a technology standpoint, i think in many ways it is inferior to the GT-R, but it most certainly looks better. I don't say this lightly, the only thing that keeps me from purchasing a GT-R is its looks when compared it to the Z06. When I heard about the ZR-1, I was really excited, until I heard about the 100k+ price tag. And in both cases, the situation is worsened by dealers that really just want to get as much for the car as they can, and end up adding large amounts to the MSRP.

How is that.... the GT-R has around 500hp and the Camaro ZL1 would be about 570hp.... even though the Camaro is not AWD it should definitely be close on its tail if GM tunes the setup just right.....please remember that it would still cost significantly less than the NISSAN

no doubt that the 0-60 time that GT-R's post are really quick..... i am curious though, as to how quick it is going from 60-130.... and i hope that the brass at GM are right when they stated that the ZR1 will post the fastest production times at any track.... hopefully.....

The estimates are hovering around 525 hp for the GTR and very few expect the top Camaro to exceed 550 hp. that nissan whooped the Z06 around the nurburgring. in addition to power to weight there is also brakes, suspension, tranmission, and all wheel drive. There is no way that any stock Camaro will be able to beat the GTR in anything but a straight line. It may come close, which is good enough for the price.

true, must be the engineer in me: form follows function. BUT ask an import fan which one looks better and you might get a different answer.

I'm trading in two imports on my new Camaro. I like the Infiniti G37 but it does not have enough torque, and I like the GT-R, but it's already sold out, and limited production drove prices through the roof. And nothing else has the in-your-face American styling inside and out like the new Camaro.

you all keep stating a 3.3 sec 0-60 time for the GT-R. remember how it gets that consistently. it's the snob switch. it has been programmed with a button to give the right amount of power to the drive train to allow for that 0-60 time. I bet you if the camaro/corvette/etc had that type of technology behind it we'd see the same if not better in some cases. the GT-R is a nintendo generation nerd mobile. I respect the technology but believe that car was designed for people that can't drive. it's aimed at the rich people that can afford anything and want to look cool. but enough of this bench racing. the only way we will see how fast these cars are is to actually race them after they are both out.
