Burn through the gas, refill with 93 and move on. This thread is hilarious.

Holy $h!t. I had no clue about this whole "reset "! I was one of those idiots who fueled up with 87 when I first got my ride, and that I could fix it by just putting 91. Trying this tonight, will report tomorrow! Thanks everyone.

I had no idea about the fuse trick so I'm glad I stumbled across this thread! I bought my car 3 weeks ago and I'm about 90% sure the dealership put 87 octane when they filled up the car. I've gone through a few tanks of gas and have only been using 93, so I'll pull the fuses tonight. I'm curious how big of a difference it actually makes.

Not when they pull that kind of $hit. Sorry my car, you can stand there and watch.

Do they think you'll pull a drive off? Oh yeah, that's the Chris Christy state.

Whacky!!!

Sorry, lawman, not your call.

The reasoning dates back to the 1940's

Quote:
New Jersey is one of only two states where it’s illegal to pump your own gas. This dates back to 1949 when the New Jersey Legislature passed the Retail Gasoline Dispensing Safety Act, primarily over concerns about the safety of consumers pumping petroleum themselves.
and if you recall a more recent concern over filling separate containers (don't leave them sitting in/on you vehicle, as a static spark can happen and ignite it all . . . has happened, actually) there is plenty of reason to believe that not every consumer is really qualified to handle HAZMATs. You may be, and I probably am. But that doesn't mean that everybody else with a driver's license is.

Jersey my ass. I live in jersey too, the second i pull up, i get out and bolt to the pump and shun the attendant away. One time the attendant gave me a hard time about it, so I showed him the 6-inch scratch he left on my paint, and told him it's against the law to damage someone else's property such as he did himself. I threatened to notify his supervisor about it, and he walked away.

The bankruptcy of gas container maker Blitz proves many people are not qualified to handle gasoline, now my parents can't figure out how to fill the mower with the new gas containers.

On our 2010 V6, the manual says it can run all 3 grades in it. Although we only put 93 in it. What will it do to the V8 if you do run 87 octane in it? Does it blow the engine up or make it not run at all? Just curious. Thank You

Do they still give free oven mits??

It doesn't "do" anything. The motor runs just fine on 87. It simply makes more power using high octane.

i usually have it topped off with Unleaded 104 octane.

in this case you need 6.71 gallons of 104 to mix with that 87 in order to achieve 93 octane.

http://www.wallaceracing.com/octane-mix-calc.php

I had a car that required 93 and this being California, 93 is not available at the pumps, but higher octane are available to be poured by hand.

I hope this helped.

oh yeah and here's a place in New Jersey that sells it: Up rt23 in butler cam2 next to g&a,s has 100 octane pump AND ANOTHER: Rt 46 eastbound fort lee sunoco. Just for future reference.

I got some bad gas a while back on my ZL1, didn't know I had got a bad batch of gas and was running like I always do and start noticing somethings were not right. I found some racing fuel(Sunoco) and put about 8 gallons in it pulled the fuses. When I put the fuses back in and drove it next that the car not only felt better it felt like it was on steroids for that tank of gas. Just my two cents, hope it helps.
