I feel safer in the manual as well... If you look at all the accidents that have occurred by Camaro owners in this forum, the majority are in Automatics.. It is easier to speed in an automatic without realizing it is the main reason. You also have more traction control when the roads are wet.. The only place where the auto has an advantage is going up and down steep hills.. I definitely would get the manual if I were you.

Wait, what? You could argue that plenty of accidents are potentially caused by stick drivers stalling or rolling back on a hill, or whatever. The majority of accidents happen in automatics because the majority of cars are automatics...period.
That being said...don't fall for trolling on this. Manual drivers like to put themselves on some sort of holy pedestal of car driving, but the reality is that driving a stick either becomes second nature (like driving an automatic) or never does, and it's fun when you get to enjoy it but sucks ass when you don't. Get the car that you think you'll enjoy...a good mental exercise (if you know a little about driving stick) is to go about your day "pretending (as in, in your head)" to shift as you drive (if you own an auto now). Keep in mind the following: -Rolling by letting off the brake is not possible in a stick. You'll have to commit to at least some gas pedal to inch up. -You'll want to pop into neutral at stop lights. Remember to "shift" into first before it turns green. If you don't...oops. -Try to think how fast you could coordinate shifting under heavy acceleration. Not everyone is a race car driver after all, so you'll be measuring against consistency with an auto. Miss a shift? Oops. Note that none of the above are necessarily bad things, depending on your point of view. A manual can be a lot of fun when you get to enjoy it, but it can also suck the life out of you when you can't, if you can't abide by working around the above conditions. Don't let anyone tell you that you aren't "driving" in an auto, or that it's slower, or any such shit. The L99 is a wonderful experience to drive (and yes, I know how to drive stick. Learned on an SRT4 belonging to a friend), and I don't regret it one bit, whether I'm doing a 0-60 run or I'm just crawling forward in traffic. At the end of the day, this is YOUR car, and it's up to YOU to enjoy it.

You can get a 3rd party command start system that's designed for manual transmissions... This is not an excuse!

I've driven maunal vehicles since I was 15.....its a lot of fun.... a year and a half ago I thought maybe I was growing up and needed an automatic expecially since I was doing a lot of city driving now.... bought a 2001 mustang GT and enjoyed it for about a week... then hated it. I did a full exhaust job and rims and Leman's racing stripes trying to make myself like it more but it didnt happen. Had it been manual I probably wouldnt be buying a camaro right now. Automatic sports cars are a JOKE in my opinion.

YOU can get someone to put REMOTE START on ur manual car. DONT let that be the deciding factor. I have no problem with clutch in tight traffic. but if u think it will bother u that much get an auto. other than that there is NO reason to get an auto. unless maybe ur always eating or on the phone but hey thats dangerous!!!!

hmmm sticks are fun as heck!!...but the reason I have a manual is because.... sniff sniff ..... 2 ACL knee surgeries on my clutch leg and driving in DC -metro traffic can cause havoc and pain. Its still a helluva car to drive no matter whats on the floor!!!

Easiest thread ever - the stick is the ONLY way to go with a car like this. Interactive - not to mention the paddles are designed VERY poorly - can't reach them when turning.

Personal preference is the way to go
![]() Though, if you're doing bracket racing, auto is the way to go... More consistant... But fun factor definitely is in the stick shift... It's why I bought my Blazer, lol. |

![]() I gave the paddle shifters, manumatics or autosticks whatever you want to call them they did nothing for me personally. One of the biggest dissapointments i ever had was with testing the dodge charger. The designers seem to feel none of the owners like a stick with a 425hp hemi motor with it. With such a good looking and powerful car like that what a shame. I want the whole experience with the clutch and the shifter or im not a happy camper. |

I personally don't like the "paddle shifters" myself but I do prefer the auto over the manual. The reasons being I hate having to ride the clutch and constantly shift in this California traffic and the Auto is only sacrificing 26BHP to the manual and you can mod the hell out of it if you so choose. It is nice to be able to throw the gears yourself when in a 1/4 mile but to me for a daily driver the auto is the way to go. Besides I love the remote start! It's fun to be in a restaurant looking out the window and see someone get a little too close and then point your key fob and start the car. People jump, back up and some scatter like mice. But I digress, it really comes down to personal preference and good luck with your choice.

Autostart is no reason not to get a manual... It's just not a factory GM option because GM is lazy, lol.
