I have my car back from the dealership! They exchanged the supercharger and had it done quickly. So far, I have had no issues with rattling or squealing. Also GM Customer care really helped! They contacted GM Customer care in Canada and they followed up promptly with my dealership to track the progress of my repair. I am very impressed with GM and their proactive approach to ensuring my satisfaction. Hopefully this will solve my issues. But if there are any further issues, I am confident that GM will stand behind their warranty.

Update: Went to start my car the other day. The supercharger rattle is STILL THERE! I had not driven the car since I brought it home from the dealership, so it was the first time I started it since I parked it a few days ago. I opened the hood to have a listen, and it was ratttling away!

I dropped the car off on Monday afternoon. The dealership called my home around noon on Tuesday to let me know the job was done. I found it odd that they could do a 5 hour job in a little under 4 hours. Maybe they could, who knows?

While listening to the rattle, I noticed that the new supercharger looked suspiciously the same as the old one. I checked under the plastic engine cover and I found that the new unit was dusty, and not one bolt had evidence of a wrench touching any of them. Only the cross brace under the hood looked as though it had been removed. The part number on the sticker on the supercharger did not match the part number on the work order either.

At this time, the dealership wants me to bring the car back to again diagnose the exact same problem which I suspect they did not repair.

I am in contact with GM customer care in Canada, and I will be bringing the car back today. This is getting really frustrating!

Is it possible they pulled the snout off and replaced the isolator?

That's a good point, I have been saying this in multiple posts, there is more to this rattle than the front isolator and what GM is saying. I think a lot of these rattles are also coming from the REAR supercharger bearings...

The dealership did in fact replace my supercharger. I asked to see my old one today, and I did see the old unit. I spoke to the tech that did the repair and he did note that the new one is making the same rattle. I will drive my car as is, and if the rattle becomes very loud, I will bring it back for a new unit. I am now on my second supercharger and it is as bad as my original unit. I am grateful that I have warranty until 2023 on my car. I am certain that this is not the last time that the supercharger will be replaced. I hope the next one will be of a better design. The rattle is definitely coming from the front of the supercharger.

Damn! Why even worry about it then? I'd rather the dealer not touch my car anyway...kinda like somebody touching your woman.

I don't know what to do. I doubted that they actually did the repair, my new one was as bad as the old one. I asked to see the old one, was I ever surprised when the showed me it! Drive your cars until the rattle gets really bad, then they will give you another new one. That is my plan, for now. Unless I break down and get the Magnuson supercharger. I am seriously contemplating going that route. I really like my ZL1 and if Magnuson supercharger is the way to go, then maybe it's worth investigating in the future. Otherwise, I have warranty until 2023, and that is peace of mind. For now.

From what I understand GM has changed the fix from a complete SC replacement with a solid isolator to an isolator only replacement (back to the original spring loaded version) packed with grease. FWIW, I replaced mine (it was actually broken) with a solid isolator 2 years ago myself. Zero issues or can of marbles sound since then.

In my particular case, the dealership actually replaced the entire supercharger. I asked to see the old one. Is the solid isolator available as a part from GM or is it an aftermarket part? When you replaced yours DrkPhx, what did you use to seal the end of the supercharger? Also is there a specific torque spec for the bolts that secure the snout to the supercharger body? I may want to replace my isolator as you did yours.

Update: I received a follow up call from GM Canada customer care. They wanted to know if my car has been repaired satisfactorily. I told them that the new supercharger was rattling worse than the old one. They advised I bring it to another dealership for a second oppinion. I did this today, and was greeted by the service manager. He had a tech check the rattling sound. They second dealership agreed to repair the car, as it was rattling and was noisy. They then advised that they would confirm part availability before I bring the car in for repair. Later on today they called and informed me that since I already had the supercharger replaced with a new one, that I would only have the snout and isolator repair performed to repair the car. I am currently waiting until the middle of next week for parts to arrive.

I find it reassuring that GM is in fact doing it's best to repair my car. This is the first time that any company has done so much to assure my satisfaction with its products! I do believe that the snout and isolator repair should address the rattling issue.

However I am surprised that the second dealership mentioned that since I already had a supercharger replaced, I would only get the snout and isolator repair. Now, I do believe that the snout and isolator will fix my issue. But, if it does not am I then out of luck and have to either deal with the rattle or possibly pay for a repair? Is this the new policy?

Before you spend that kind of money, check out Jokerz Performance. They have some experience with these blowers, both with CTS and ZL1 cars. They might be able to rebuild it for you, even port too, for a LOT less than a new blower.

Just a thought. Good luck.
