I think the best thing they do is hold my sun shade in place when I'm parked at work

This is a good idea and a bad idea. If you are on the shorter end of the scale when you raise the seat up you can't see the traffic light unless you stop 3 car lengths back from the stop line. With the seat lowered at least you can see the stop lights. But then the visor sort of works depending on where the sun is .
