My Blazer, just by the vibration in the gas pedal and my hand I can tell my speeds, and that's with the stereo cranked... I don't need my guages... But I still use them, just in case

Hey guys this is getting a little rediculous its getting to the point where you have to think twice before making a post for fear of some people tearing into it and attacking you. The OP just asked a simple question some responses were funny but others were very rude. If this keeps up I think alot of sensative people will stop posting.

My BMW Motorcycle has a gear indicator. It is actually quite handy if you stop at a light and don't quite click down to first. I don't use it a lot, but it is a nice feature for a motorcycle.
I was going to suggest that the OP learn to use the tachometer, but the photo from duder4thgen kinda pointed that out. In a performance car, you need to learn to feel the engine and use the RPMs to help you with what gear you are in. Learn what speed in what gear results in what RPMs. As I recall though, the LMP cars have gear indicators for the drivers, and I am pretty sure they have shift lights.................so no, it isn't a bad question at all...................it's just one that as you can see would result in a lot of (friendly) ribbing. Of course in THE NASCAR, you are just roundy rounding in top gear for 3 or 4 hours and knowing what gear you are in is less critical....................unless you needed gas and a tire change.

You DO have a gear indicator. It's called a tachometer and sits right next to your speedometer. I really didn't mean to ruffle your feathers AS MUCH as I did. I was just poking a bit... Oh, and I AM an expert driver. If you only knew. |

[U] Its only a matter of a 5 years or LESS and it WILL come with a 8 speed AUTO.....I don't think they will make a 8 speed manual.
If they only make 8 speeds in the auto, then the auto will have a VAST advantage over the stick.

I agree the tach is the best indicator that you have right now.

OK
I dont get it.... If your stick is up, your in an odd gear. If you stick is down, your in an even gear. That helps narrow it down for sure.... but this is where I get confused, If you cant look at that BIG ASS, HUGE Tach and see that you are running 2500 RPMS.... Then how are you going to see a MUCH SMALLER, gear indicator on the DIC? In the V6 stick shift.... there is an indicator when you shift in Reverse (I thought it was cool as hell when somebody showed me) I can assure you, if you had an indicator for every gear, like you do for Reverse on that car...... it would not be ANYWHERE CLOSE to being as noticeable as the needle on the tach

The only need for a gear indicator is for Paddle shifts. And thats only with a real one. These Autos with the flappy paddles are kinda poser crash boxes. No offense to anyone with auto buttons but its just peripherals. Ive driven about 10 real true paddle shift cars Ferarri F1 cars and its so different.

its no problem for me, you probably just need to get used to it more but it would be nice to just have it there like in the auto cars
