real Drivers that like to actually race do. drag racers (at least here) prefer autos because they can shift harder and faster then a manual.

No doubt manual, not going to be my every day driver. If it was I would have to seriously consider an automatic just to eliminate the hassle in traffic.

This will be my first manual car ever. After driving a Z06 Vette, I've been converted.
The idea of trying heel-toe downshifts is way more exciting than flipping a lever. Besides, I need to practice my rev-matching.

At first I thought manual all the way, but after contemplation a big stall in front of that 6LXX, I wonder if that would change my mind. I know I like the big stall I have in my current car, and it makes up for the fact it's not a manual.

manual for me, more power to the ground/ gas mileage. My current car is a automatic, and my chevelle is a manual valve body, still no clutch though, so I'm slowly making my way to a full on manual lol.

Hook up a button to the torque converter lockup wire such that the converter locks when you don't press the button. You could place the button on the shifter or on the floor in the clutch position. That would be cool...

I'm sure he doesn't have a 700R4 in that Chevelle. As I'm sure you already know, not all trannys have lock-up converters. I'd be willing to bet that '66 has at least a TH350 and probably even a 400; I don't think lock-up converters are really popular for those trannys.
Just my .02.
