MiniMav,

Welcome to the site Please refrain from the name calling. We try to keep a tight rope on the posts here to keep them from getting personal.

Funny how you tend to generalize. I saw a post on another thread about how the Camaro is so rare and that's why the person decided to buy one. Guess that's why you decided to buy yours too. I know and have met people with GT500's and never one time has any of them mentioned how well their car performs on a road course, never. I already stated that I believe the guy should go with what makes him happy. I drive a 17 yr old 5.0 because I love that car and it makes me happy. Will it out corner a 2010 SS? NO. Do I care? NO. It all depends on what makes you happy because none of the bench racers and key board warriors that inhabit the internet will be driving that car of yours or making payments on it.

Both are GREAT vehicles! I actually drove both before deciding. I stuck a magnacharger on my SS and it hauls balls and saved a few thousand versus buying a shelby gt500.
Go with what makes you happy.

Here is my reasoning:
I can pick them both up for around the same price, all the SS's I see are going for 36-38 K and I can pick up a used GT500 with 7000 miles for 37000 easy, less if I haggle them down.
As far as the looks go I am indifferent, they both look pretty good.

Performance: GT500 bone stock is a bit faster, I think MMFF ran a best of 12.2 with a stock one but typical times are mid-high 12's.
I don't like to get into the mod vs mod arguement but if you get a new pulley and tune for the GT500 you can easily gain 100 hp for around 1000 dollars, also it's engine is all forged steel bottom end.

The only advantage I can think of for the camaro is that I can get a brand spankin new car for the same price.

Any input?
Buy the new car. It's a good feeling. Plus, I hate the rears of the Mustangs, it is simply (simple), and I have the break lights. The front is nice.....Still hate the rear......But, yeah go Mustang, one less Camaro in the road, making my Camaro a little more special...

I will admit that I have seen a few "Mustang Guys" on here and other forums that like to mention the finer aspects of how their car handles compared to a Camaro or Challenger. I was just stating that I have never said anything about that and none of the Mustang owners that I know have ever brought that up in conversations. I apologize if I got a little personal but to label and misquote me is getting a tad bit personal as well. I could give two s*#ts what someone wants to buy, just trying to point out some facts about both cars and got zinged for it.

Why not get a used 2003-2004 Dodge Viper SRT-10? If you are wanting performance the Viper will spank just about any car on the road. Beinga Viper owner I can tell you that it is hands down a better sports car than either of the above... but it doesnt have the gadgets that the Camaro does. But it is a limited prodcution car (usually between 1200-1500 hand built per year) and they are not making them anymore after 2010. That means values will go up. Right now I have seen 2003-4 models with 15k miles going in the range of 35-45k... depending on the car. They are absolute steals and if I could have another one... I would.

Ford had seriously upgraded the 2010 GT500's suspension over older models. Motor trend's 2009 Best Driver's Car Competition tested the GT500 and SS at Laguna Secca and the tester raved about the GT500's suspension and put the Camaro's to shame. You could also search Griggs suspension for mustangs. There's kit's out there that can are on par with zo6's. Next year the Shelby is getting an aluminum block and should be lighter then the z/28 and get better mpg. This will make the GT500 handle even better. Yes the SRA is is bummer but isnt a deal breaker for for me. The Camaro handles better on bumpy streets but the GT500 is better going fast on smooth surfaces and more fun according to Motortrend
