Ok, here are some meeting points based on the map. meeting points afterwards Emporia Va around 1pm if all is well on hwy. interstate 95s and interstate 40 NC interstate 95s and interstate 20 SC interstate 95S and interstate 26 SC Savannah Ga, get hotel and eat/socialize then sleep. Friday Fla interstate 10W and interstate 295 beltway. open to suggestion on other meeting points? Let me know how they look. I still need to get times between the distances. Biggest question is if we want to stop each time, or have these as points to merge in while the caravan continues to drive. Any feedback?

I concur!!
Maybe this can have its own thread with it in the top post, so we know exactly where to find the up to date copy. speaking of up to date.... Can you add Austin, TX to Houston. Me and a couple others will be following that route to meet up with the rest of the texans the afternoon of the 15th. THANKS

Merge in while the caravan continues to drive because every stop will be 15-30 minutes..Your 8 hour drive will end up being 10-11 hrs drive.. I did a convoy from Montreal to Oshawa and we had a couple of members waiting on the side of the highway and as we drove by they merged. You just need to have the phone #'s of the members that will be merging to let them know how far we are from them...etc... We can chat at the main Destination...

(Map on 1st page updated) You guys still have plenty of time to plan stops, routes, etc. When you have hard times I'll update the map as we go. Something else I wanted to mention... 20-30 or even more cars in a caravan is COOOOL! But you start getting a snap-the-whip effect. The lead car can be running 70 and the last cars are running sometimes 40, then 90 to keep with the group. Make tight groups of 5 or so cars that want to run the same speed, and don't worry about keeping up, you can all get back together at the lunch break. Just make sure the leader of your group knows where he's going

Looks like there may be a good point for the Southbound 75 route to meet up with the Eastbound group in Atlanta. Since we are leaving Chattanooga at 8:15 and it is a two hours shot down 75 from Chattanooga to ATL, maybe the two groups can converge in ATL at 10:30 am since the time in Birmingham was a ??? I am not sure what their plan was. If it was overnight in Birmingham, its only a 2.5 hour drive to ATL, sounds like 10:30 in ATL would work nice. UPDATED from page 1> Quote:

edit... I just looked at the link... You are a TROPPER! 2400 km! AWESOME! I saw your other thread about the stops and merging in, good idea. Our stops need to be BRIEF. Everyone needs to plan to be at the metting point BEFORE the posted time. It will more be a stop and go meet in the cities, except Knoxville where we start and probably ATL since it may be 2 large groups meeting up. I want to try to keep the groups on or ahead of schedule so we can be at the hotel by 3PM. I put you on the list on page 1 so I can keep track of possible people meeting up. I will stay intouch via PM as time nears. Last edited by IROCanSS; 12-18-2009 at 11:56 AM. |
