This is a walk around with Jeff Perkins on the differences between the concept and the production model. It gives some insight as to why some things were done they way they were. Some of this we know already. One thing I didn't know is a mention of Ignition Orange interior:
NICE!

Great article. Although, they forgot to mention the gas cap location.

I was just about to post this also. I have been waiting for someone to make a nice comparison between the two cars, since most of the changes are so minute they are hardly even noticeable.

Of the various front ends, I prefer the SS. I prefer the production interior over the concept as well. Everything else, it would have been nice to keep the concepts look. However, if I had seen the production without seeing the concept I would have liked it just as much. Its just having the mental image of the concept. it will fade though and be replaced by the real camaro

Differences made between Concept and production model.

The two look very similar but this link gives a more detailed before and after. Many of you have seen this but I thought it cool enough to pass on to those of us who haven't. I for one thought GM made some very wise compromises.

Notice this:

When we did the concept we weren't thinking HUD or non-HUD, but if you ever drive a car with HUD it's such a great feature so it made a lot of sense for a performance car and driven by visibility.

Ummm just maybe. Would be a cool option. Not a make or break for me...especially since I already have mine

Edit: The 'reality' picture shows HUD and the 'concept' does not. Things that make you go hummmm.

Yes, I noticed that about the HUD. But the windshield is already so small maybe they thought it to be too much. It's nice they added a digital speedometer in the DIC though. I already think the rear view mirror cuts out too much of the view.
As for the fuel door, I really thought it might be a hassle on the other side but I like not opening my door into a fueling station and I like the fact there isn't a remote fuel door opener because in my last car I would sometimes forget to hit it.

This is the most interesting thread I have seen in a long time. Unless I missed it, I notice there is no mention of the biggest change of all- the "B" pillar added to the production Camaro. Someone somewhere also said the production roof is one inch higher, I forget where. Again, great thread.

Red face

"The SS actually has a small opening in the hood, but the other models do not. We didn't want any non-functional parts on the car."

um, isn't the 'mail slot' in the nose of the SS's NON functional ?

That is the only distraction on the Camaro. I'd fill up the slot and add something to the hood like the 1st gens. had on them if I could have designed it. I don't mean the velocity stacks but something to make it stand out. I have the V6 and am glad that there was only one hood as I really like it but the SS deserved more than a slot. Oh well.

I love the look of the slot on the hood but don't understand why they made it non-functional. Would it be less aerodynamic thus reducing gas milage?? I don't recall anything being written about "why". Anyway it looks hot!!
