i don't believe Lo Jack is supposed to be a theft deterent. Ive checked it out for my bike and it says not to advertise that it has lo jack. they do it like this to keep people from recognizing that a car doesn't have it, it keeps theifs guessing and hoping the vehicle doesn't have it

I don't live in an area that would make it likely to get stolen and if it is...well that is what insurance is for.

Also - Passkey III, from what I understand, works rather well.

Mine will be covered at all times and I rarely go to areas known for high crime (and if I go there I'll take my Saturn Aura..it's a great car but not exactly a magnet for thieves).

So, is no one even going to bother having an alarm system installed?

I'm assuming the concern on alarms is just for the V8's?

I had Lojack back in the day, it worked great, no one tried to steal the car. lol

Onstar will help and that one program one of our members mention in another Alarm system thread, where as soon as the car is turned on, we can get notified via text or email. I have the link at home or search for it, the thread is somewhere.

I believe in the good old kill switch theory bypass fuel pump and coil works great for me. easy to install and you are the only one that knows where you put them.

Just remember that you did that the night before or else you might end up with the pink eye....

In the great state of texas, any person in the commision of a crime has no right to sue you. That means their family can NOT sue you for wrongful death. The most that would happen is you would have to stand before a grand jury.Either my CHL insurance or the NRA would cover those expenses for me.All i can say is,I feel sorry for the chump that thinks he's gonna jack my car.

Seriously though, buy a holster for a large caliber handgun (44 mag or 50 cal) and leave it on the seat in plain view when you leave your car. When a would be theft looks into the vehicle, he will wonder where is the gun and the owner. Works great in convertibles.
i like this guy's ideas....both of them!

I like that new GM vehicles with OnStar can kill the engine. Actually, it doesn't kill the engine, just retards it, so they can only go like 3 mph, and with the GPS location, cops (me!) can find and retrieve the vehicle rather quickly.

But yes, for the love of God, door locks!! That's one of the biggest mistakes with auto thefts/burglaries I see is people don't lock their doors cause "nothing like that ever happens around here". It only takes one person to walk down a street checking door handles and you've got a rash of break-ins. I actually had a car theft once in a fairly nice neighborhood where the people left the vehicle unlocked and left the keys in the console!!! Once again, the excuse was "that's never happened here before".

I've had OnStar on my GM vehicles since 2001. It really doesn't give me a high level of confidence as a theft recovery device.

It is extremely easy to disable. I understand the Camaro has an all in one antenna, but my 2002 and 2005 Avalanches have an OnStar antenna that you can unscrew in about 5 seconds. Unscrewing it greatly reduces the cellular service range. The Camaro won't have that problem, but I imagine putting a tin can over it or something else that will disrupt or limit the cell signal will still be possible.

There's no battery backup and it depends entirely on the car having power. If the battery is disconnected or is otherwise disabled (bad car accident) then your OnStar is worthless. Given that the Camaro's battery is in the trunk, I'm curious to know if popping the trunk triggers the car alarm and in general how hard it is to gain access to the trunk.

Fortunately I don't have any personal experience with trying to recover a stolen OnStar equipped vehicle. This last item is based on what I have been told from people that have had their vehicles stolen. From what I understand, OnStar will not even begin tracking a stolen vehicle until they get an order from the police. This means that if your car is stolen at 2am, you find it stolen at 9am, you report it to the police and they report it to OnStar, it won't be until many hours later that OnStar starts tracking and looking for it.

I think some of the other suggestions in this thread will be a lot more effective than relying on OnStar.

It depends on your view. I have a friend that drives a BMW,he never locks his doors, ever!.When i asked him about this his reply was "if someone wants to break into my car they are going to get in no matter what,I just dont want them breaking the window to get in.cause then i'll have to replace whatever is stolen PLUS the window they broke" .

mine will be parked in a garage that is enclosed behind a gate.On that gate there is a sign that says "No tresspassing,Violators will be shot, survivors will be shot again" .when i'm not home, the keys will be in the little "fire safe" that sits inside of the very big and bolted to the concrete, gun safe.Which also happens to be in a closet with a dead bolt on it .

Just curious if the Canadian Camaro's will have OnStar? This will potentially be my first new car (potentially because I don't really have a cosigner at the time and I need to be approved based on my credit first!) so I've never experienced it and was curious about it.

Will certain models get it or will it be across the board?
