The drain plug is the same size for all camaro engines order a: AP-04
They are about $9 and a worthwhile investment!
OP has probably decided but here is my opinion. Yes it is worth it. Why? The magnetic drain plugs that I have in all my on/offroad vehicles always have a small amount of metal particles on the magnet. I don't know for sure if the filter would capture this metal or not, depends on the size of the metal and micron level of filtration for your filter. I just installed a gold plug last week on my 2010 SS. At first, I thought they sent me the wrong plug, that the magnetic plug was too small in diameter, but it wasn't. Although, it was slightly shorter than the oem. Therefore, it went in further before the threads would start to mate. Also, the magnet was attracted to the steel and would not allow the plug to center in the hole. I think the oil pan is aluminum, so there must be a steel insert in the drain plug hole. One thing I don't care for about the gold plug is the washer/gasket. I like the oem, it has an o-ring. The gold plug has what appears to be a aluminum washer that is replaceable. I guess the theory is that the soft aluminum will crush/scour and thus seal. Although I have an SS and you have a 2LT, I believe the plug would be similiar.

That's the problem with just about every aftermarket drain plug, they will self loosen. The OEM o-ring style is far superior for retention.

It would be nice if we could find an OEM o-ring style that use to come standard.

If you stick an aftermarket drain plug in.... clean the hole good with a cloth and thin screw driver. Then a little brake clean on the cloth. Then use some blue loctite on the plug thread, and hold off on refilling the oil for a bit.

When I use the blue loctite, the plugs never come loose again. If I don't, all the washer style plugs, especially the plastic washer ones will come loose pretty quick. Recheck it once in a while if you didn't loctite it.

Yes there is... the gold plug is too short will it work ,yes.. will it guarantee that your plug will not shoot out on to the payment doing 0 to 60 in 5 secs, ,no......my dealer service guy said he would put it on but said he didn't like it....there is a reason why the original plug is suppose to be long...
