If the hospital absorbs the cost then that cast gets passed on to the paying patients. Driving is a privilege and requiring someone to have a means to reimburse someone for their negligence isn't at all out of line. If you have ever been involved in a civil case to collect damages, its extremely expensive and when you do win its almost impossible to collect.

It happens daily with these uninsured idiots here with no licenses. Again, no thanks.

YOU damaged my car YOU pay to fix it. If you can’t that’s why you have insurance. If you didn’t have any and can’t come up with $20k, why is that MY problem?
Let's go back to the home owner insurance scenario. Let's say I'm burning leaves in my back yard and a stray, burning ember flies over in the breeze and torches your roof. Is it my home owner's insurance or yours that covers the damage?

It's a rhetorical question of course as it would be your insurance that you chose to buy, that would cover the damage. As for my responsibility in the matter, you (or more likely, your insurance company) would have every right to take it up in civil court and force me to pay reparations. My home owner's insurance would not be party to any of it.

Hospitals have been absorbing costs since the day they were created. That's a non-argument.

And I can flip that coin and say requiring someone to take responsibility for the risks they want to take isn't at all out of line.

(hahaha I knew my comment would stir the hornets nest. It always does. But my logic is sound. I shall not waver!! hahaha)

Your logic is hardly sound. But as they say you’re right to your opinion however wrong it is.

And for your again not similar example, burning leaves here is illegal. If it was legal and you were the one responsible it would be up to you to pay the cost. If you couldn’t, then that’s why you have insurance. To protect yourself from irresponsible and lazy people that don’t live up to their responsibilities.

I understand risk and personal responsibility fine. I’ve been in law enforcement for 27+ years and I’m a veteran. The issue is that’s it’s not my risk sitting at a red light when you are on your phone and plow into me. That’s a risk you took by breaking the law. You caused me harm, you took your risks, and you are responsible for making me whole. That’s the sad reality of why we need insurance because people can’t cover their mistakes and making the victim pay is wrong on so many levels.
Not sure why your resume is brought up, but ok.

You take risks every day. In your house, on the street, sitting in your car. Why should I pay insurance for you? You have yet to define that. I buy insurance because I WANT to. The government shouldn't be mandating the purchase. The law has not kept people from driving without insurance. Please point to any statistic that proves otherwise. Here in Clark county, Nevada, the estimate is that one in four people are driving unlicensed and uninsured. Laws forcing people to have insurance have only served the insurance companies and the candidates they support.

And does the fact that I'm a disabled veteran lend any more credence to my statements?

Hospitals don't absorb cost they pass it on that is an absolute fact-Every one else pays for those that don't.

(shrug) You get the analogy even if you don't want to admit it. It's legal in most places. Glad I don't live in a place where it isn't. Good grief.

Hospitals absorb tens of thousands of dollars monthly. Always have and always will.

You all have a great weekend! I'm heading out to my insured, in ground, 15,000 gallon pool with a tall cold, adult beverage.

Cheers!

I have made the point numerous times. Your inability to comprehend it isn’t my burden. When you cause harm to others it’s YOUR responsibility to make it right. Since most people aren’t responsible enough to have the resources available you have insurance to protect that. And because others aren’t responsible I have to have more insurance to protect myself from others that again, aren’t responsible. You can spin it all you want.

And my resume is certainly germane as I deal with uninsured and unlicensed drivers and the nightmares their irresponsible and ignorant behavior leaves in its wake. I’m certainly not in favor of big government, but how can you tell the people that did nothing wrong well it sucks that you were sitting there minding your own business when this person blatantly caused you harm and there’s nothing we can do. It’s your fault for leaving your house. Have a nice day.

Simple solution is don't use your name as a user name on any message boards. And don't register with your real name.
Social media…this should scare the Bejesus out of everyone. Especially in the wake of a certain president, that gave a certain speech, about a certain group, of about 74 million people. Just sayin’.

Hey totally off topic, but I have three guitars hanging on the wall of my pool room. I acquired them from a former manager of the Hard Rock in Vegas. One is signed by Slash, another by Sammy Hagar and the third by every member of Kiss. The Hagar guitar is a post CBS Fender but it still plays and sounds great. My granddaughter plays the crap out of it every time she comes over. (She's definitely a better player than I.)
