Well not necessarily. Since you ordered the day after they came back from Shutdown, there is a good chance that the allocations for that week (Jan 12) and the next (Jan 19) could very well have been 0 accross the board at all dealers as a way to get all the people that ordered during shut down that were 2000 and higher back online. It was the same way in July. There was a one week shutdown in July where dealers had no allocations for 3 weeks. I am betting its the same right now. Give it a few weeks or just go ask you INVENTORY MANAGER whats going on. Unless hes a jerk off, he will tell you what their allocations look like.

3 KEY TO REMEMBER:

#1 always deal with the INVENTORY MANAGER
#2 how many allocations?
#3 how many at 1100 before me?

If you I.M. is a jerk, go somewhere else
If there are no allocations in the next week or two, go somewhere else
If there are a lot of 1100 ahead of you, go somewhere else.

GUYS/GALS, This car is NOT hard to get anymore but some dealers will lie and thieve to get you hooked... just shop around. Get the best deal in the best time frame.

You should not expect to pay a dime over MSRP (less really) or wait any loner than 8 weeks for these cars. (baring you dont get held up in QC)

Calm down boys. You have not waited too long yet.

Give them a few weeks to get back with regular updates.

Allocation... this is a dealers ability to submit an order for production. You see back in 10/08 dealers were taking all the orders they could then came to realize GM only accepted a certian number per month. This ended up being VERY bad for a dealer that took 100 orders but only got 10 allocations per month... see the problem. Add the constraints to that... CGM was on constraint, SS was on constraint, LT with RS was on constraint... and so on...

All you need to do is ask a few simple questions to your dearship INVENTORY MANAGER. Skip your salesman/woman. Go for the right person. Ask them the following question and you will know exactly where you stand.

#1. How many allocations do you have this cycle? A cycle runs from the 15th of this month to the 15th of next month. Allocations are set for Tuesdays so if there are 4 Tuesdays this cycle he can tell you how many orders will be picked up each Tuesday. For example Jan 15 through Feb 15 has 4 Tuesdays. The INVENTORY MANAGER will know how many allocations he has for those 4 Tuesdays. Lets say its 1-1-1-1... Thats 1 car per week... This leads to the next question:

#2 How many orders are at 1100 before me? If there are 10 before you and they only got 4... guess what, you dont get picked up this month. now they will not know next months allocations.

With these two questions, you should be able to get a grip on where you stand. Its is about 6-8 weeks AFTER you go to 2000.

I hope this helps. Don't rip your salesperson yet... they may not understand. You need to go to the inventory manager.

NOW... there is also whats called "turn and earn" meaning, sell a camaro, get an allocation. Not sure if/when this was implemented. This is the way it SHOULD have been from day 1 but wasnt.

Good luck, if anyone needs any more help, just ask.
very detailed and NOT confusing explanation. thank you very much. i will wait it out a little longer and then i'll start asking some questions.

thanks again.

I ordered on Dec. 26. My dealer said they had one allocated. I stopped in at the dealer's location yesterday to check the status of my order. They told me my Camaro was ready to ship as of Jan. 22.

that sounds VERY fishy... You ordered during shut down. They must have built it right when they got back on Jan 11, which I doubt. I'd be surprized if hes telling you the truth. I hope he is but better have BeckyD from Rogers run your order number. I bet you will find this is NOT the case.

My dealer had an open allocation at the time I ordered. I ordered Nov 19th, got a workbench number the next day. Car was delivered Dec 15th! 25 days total! I live 3 hours from the plant, so my time really isn't fair to compare to as the same day it was shipped from the plant it was also delivered. Being in Canada I didn't have the same access to the tracking to get the all the times for the codes. Luckily, the car came sooner that we all thought! I talked to my salesman just last week and GM gave them more allocations than they originally had for 2010. Orders are catching up. The days of waiting for 3 months are over, as long as your dealer has allocations though.

Okay, cool. Thanks for the explanation. I'll give it another week then start calling.

Sorry if this was mentioned previously, but just neat info...Chop, Cut, Rebuild crew toured the Camaro plant and the actual production of the car takes less than 24 hours from sheet metal to final product...55 cars an hour roll off the line...amazing, and very Toyota-like manufacturing process (I've toured their Georgetown, KY plant). So that whole 6-12 week process from placing your order to receiving your car is mostly inefficient administrative processes sandwiched around one 24-hour period when YOUR car is built. The guy who installs the windshield glass then slaps YOUR window sticker on as well. Just nice to know info. Cheers.

For the most part, as long as the dealer has an open allocation.

This is the e-mail I got... needless to say, I'm gonna cancel and go with a dealer that PM'd me. I even stopped in today, and they told me they would probably get my order recieved some time in March! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

'Hi Sam,

We followed up on your Camaro order with GM as well as our Chevy Rep. from GM. Apparently GM has put the SS Camaro model on constraints for the month of January, meaning they put a hold on building the SS models as of this month. Our Chevy Rep. is working with GM on when the constraint will be lifted and production to begin again. Due to this situation, we are awaiting allocation for the SS model. Since February is around the corner we hope to get more direction from GM.

I will keep you posted as to when I receive information and send it off to you.

Thank you for your patience,

XXXXXX
XXXXX Bros. Chevrolet"
