The trunk monkey thing already posted, several times. Can we get a serious response here?

this is what i was told after panicing....it's a perfectly normal function. butterfly valve cycles itself as its own diagnostics..even when the car is not running. kinda sounds like dropping marbles inside of a plastic cup. GM does have a fix though that will allow the valve to cycle only half-way, eliminating alot of the noise. other than that, i have had no problem and now i don't even worry about it. i noticed it right after i bought it...my car has 6500 miles on it now. no issues.

Mine did it (again) this morning with 3/4 tank of fuel. Car had not been driven since Saturday. Good to know I'm not the only one to hear this!

Me too. Never hear it after I've been driving a while.
However, I can hear what I think is fuel sloshing around in the tank fairly often. |

Thank GOD I am not going crazy... I've heard it too! It is the strangest sound. To me it sounds like someone is knocking from inside the trunk. It is not engine knock (slow timing / low octane fuel). It is not the phantom bolt problem in the trunk (I had it fixed). It sounds like someone, with their knuckles, is knocking on the trunk from the inside. Even stranger, it is at random intervals. If it was metal cooling or heating, it would be a KnockKnockKnockKnock... but this is more like KNock.... knockknockknock.... knockknock.... What if a GM worker was killed on the plant, and his ghost now inhabits all of our Cammys? (And why does he want to get out of the trunk? And what will he do if we let him out? Whaaaaa!!!)

yep, i hear it to, usually not too long after starting up and usually when I stop before I pull out of my neighborhood. don't hear it once it's warmed up. so looks like it may not be a tranny issue since it's heard in both manuals and autos.

Nothing is True

haha...I can't believe I didn't see these threads before!
I too have had this happen many times. The first few times really freaked me out as I also thought someone was tapping on the trunk. It sounds just like a knock or a tap of someone trying to get my attention. After a few times, I realized it *always* and only happened at this same stop light (the light closest to my house)....so I figured I was actually hearing some kind of noise at one of the homes nearby. I thought maybe it was a carpenter hammering....until it happened a few more times at different hours. I'm clueless. It's really creepy and no one has ever been with me when it has happened. Personally, I love the idea of a trunk monkey!

Now I try and ignore it
