California Tint Law Enacted: 1999
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

CA = the sh*t when it comes to tint laws in the back. =P

Apparantly, according to the 1999 law, you can affix clear tint to prevent rock chips as long as it's in perfect working order. As soon as bubbling starts to occur it must be replaced or a ticket will be given.

In Texas, the legal limit is 25%. Oddly enough, it can't be less than 20% for the annual inspection. And, yes, depending on where you go for the inspection they will actually check it with a light meter.

COOL THANKS!
I hope this applies in CA. My eyes are super sensitive
