You're still young, save your money for when you can actually afford the monthly payments. I remember being 18 and wanting an IROC Z28......just couldn't swing it b/c I wasn't earning enough. Now 40, I earn much more and can afford the "car of my dreams"..........RY 2SS
Be smart and practical, you don't want to be in a hole so young in life....save your money and buy a used car for now.

And yeah, after you factor in $2,300 in rent and mortgage (ummmmm) you aren't making a lot more than him. He wasn't showing off, and that was probably one of the rudest comments I've seen someone make here.

If you have to sit down with pen and paper to figure out if you can afford it then you can't afford it. Get a scrapper and put an alpine in it.

To OP: don't buy a new car. You cannot afford it. Sorry. No point in working multiple jobs in this economy just to support car payments and high insurance costs. |

Wait! In a couple years ,pick up a used one for cheap! A high miler will be fine with the V6. Cadi owners are lovin the LLT.

Commits weekly crime

Not paying rent is a huge bonus to going with the SS. Personally I wouldn't buy the V6, but that's because I could afford it.
I think you'll be ok, but by doing this you'll be staying at home for longer. If you're ok with that, then I'd pull the trigger.

Not sure if it has been said, but the insurance cost of the V8 will NOT be $200 more a month than the V6.

Don't know that this is true. Who knows what his record is and insurance companies take alot into consideration like where he lives, how far he drives to work, how old he is, his record, etc etc.

I suppose it depends on the insurance company. I received the same exact quote between the v6 and the v8.

you can not afford a car with a payment, get something else and pay cash for it. This is just silly.

I agree with what many of the other posters had to say. You should wait a while and make sure you have built yourself a cushion to fall back on. you NEVER know when something may rear it's ugly head and cause you financial problems. When I was 18 my first car was an 11 year old car with 83k miles on it and I was satisfied with that. Would I rather of had a new one? Yes but I was trying to be smart and not put myself in a bind.
I bought my 2SS and I make good money. Not enough to pay for the car in full but enough to make my payment comfortably. I was one of those who couldn't wait and had to have the car so I paid over MSRP for mine. With that said, I put 10k down and after taxes, title and registration only $5,300 went towards the actual car. I have a $670 a month payment and based on your income you definitely couldn't afford that, gas and insurance. I wouldn't get the 2LT even if you think you can afford it because it sounds like you would like an SS. You would only end up regretting it down the line which is another reason you should wait and make sure you're in a better financial position. |

Well seeing as I agree with everyone else BUT your question wasn't asking if I should be your dad i'll just anwer your original post. If you say you're getting it and that's that, its not the communities job to be your parent, but don't say they didn't warn you
![]() You want the center gauges, get the 2LT and then upgrade it to the RS package, you'll get everything cool you like about the SS minus that super sweet power, and you'll be saving all that money you will NEED on gas money by getting the V6. You don't need to conform to some image about having your first car be a 2SS that's ridiculous. If this is your first car V6 or V8 you should be damn proud and excited to tell someone that. Besides, if you're really worried about power and plan to keep this car past the warranty, you can always slap a turbo in there and still pull over 500 horses with a V6. In your situation, you would be fairly moronic to jump into an SS, its just not a reasonable choice, you need to have SOME money to take care of other things beyond having a vehicle in your life. |

Think about this, save $5k to put down, and have $5k in Savings, then buy a used SS/RS when they become available as some of these guys trade for a Convertibles, Z28, etc. You'll be ahead of the game.
