Curiously, what does it currently cost GM to paint the Camaro at the assembly line? (any color in current lineup)

Subtract that price and take to account bulk pricing (bulk discount), and the actual cost difference for adding this unique color to GM's Camaro lineup would become more of an affordable option well worth its weight in paint to the consumer.

There are people willing to pay $900 more for a Transformers ed. - I'd pay up to $2k for the Sunrise yellow option if factory available

I would dare to bet this color would cost much more than $2k still... as Scott has mentioned it's more costly than most people think it is to add a paint to the line. Plus considering how this paint has to be applied. I would think those bulk discounts you speak of are no where near the amount you are assuming. $8k-$13k less? not hardly. IMHO

I loved that "Grabber Orange" color that they were putting on the mustangs.

That paint job would be sweet but If you have seen the actual car then you can easily tell that that is a custom paint job with atleast 16+ coats. It will be very hard to achieve the exact same effect with a factory paint job. You might be able to get the "color" But you wont get the full effect that the transformer's Prop Camaro has. BTW did you guys know that thats not really a camaro? Its actually a Pontiac GTO with a wicked body kit.

I hope you are joking around.

The paint in sunrise yellow has to go through a special painting process to get that look.
There is no way the assembly line has those capabilities. It would litteraly cost millions just to get the tools they need in the factory to do it. Plus the paint is expensive (for a factory color).
Your "bulk" discount would be almost pointless. You wouldn't be paying 2K for it you'd be paying closer to 5-6K. (Assuming they also jack up the prices on the entire camaro line-up to pay off for the equipment needed for this paint process).

I hope he's joking too, but I don't think so. The cost of such an operation would not only be extravagant, but downright insane.

Yeah a lot of us have known that for a while now

Camaro5 is great for all kinds of juicy tid-bits of info.

But good to mention for those who did not know.

Actually -- each color has a different cost......some are substantially more than others.

Please go back and read my post. Even if we charged 2K for the paint, we'd lose a substantial (...let me repeat that...SUBSTANTIAL) ...amount of money.

Please believe me - it is not lost on us as to the 'magic' that Bumblebee brings forth. If it were possible to paint the Camaro "Sunrise" in an assembly plant that has a regular production schedule - we would! Remember - besides working on this car - many of us are enthusiasts as well!

Hello,

Because it is a custom color and would not be possible for the price people would be willing to pay for a production model.

Sunrise Gold is not an easy color and not a cheap color; but it is beautiful.
