If the original poster is having doubts, then there is no doubt, you're not going to be happy with the V6. If you can't afford the SS,get a used GTO or a used Mustang GT or Mach 1 for the same price or much, much less as the price of a Camaro V6 or just wait,if your '96 Neon has lasted this long,it will last long enough to buy a new or used SS. |

On the other hand, who knows when anyone is buying their "last" car, what's that line...."Life is what happens while you're busy making plans". Who knows what lies around the corner, strike while the iron is hot, minimize your regrets. Get what you know you want.

I thought about making a reference to penis size and knowing how to use it, but I'll just leave that to everyone's imagination.
Personally, I'm buying a V6 because I'm realistic about my current situation. I'm about to have my fourth son under the age of 6. I'll save money on gas, insurance and still have more horsepower than any previous car I have owned. Will I ever race this car? Probably not. Will I still enjoy the power that 300hp offers? Of course. If you have the money to burn, why not? Get what you'll be happy with in the end. Just don't get stupid and hurt yourself on the streets. You can't enjoy the car if you are no longer able to drive it. |

If you look around at the world outside of gearheads, most of them are more impressed with leather seats and stereos. I could go to anyone in my office right now and say "what's the quickest way to tell a V6 from a V8 Camaro when they come back out in 2010". The response will likely be somewhere between blank stares and 'huh? they aren't making Camaros now?' Mustang sales will back that up too: they were 70% v6 until the latest styling refresh where they briefly bumped up to 50/50, but now it's leaning toward V6 again.
The V8's should be fine for daily use except you will have a mileage premium. I don't know how many miles a day you drive, but you need to figure that in. Depending on your commute on how much you've saved- Payments/Gas/Insurance/Maintenance could easily come close to $1000/mo on an SS. |

I drive a lot everyday. I hope the 26MPG won't be that bad on the 300hp 1LT! Because then I would have to kind of re-think it. But it might make up for the awesomeness of the car.

The new Camaro may not be a person's last car, but it may quite possibly be the last high performance V8 coupe they ever have. I truly think that the Camaro SS, Challenger R/T and SRT8, and Mustang GT will mark the end of the current musclcar era. Whatever follows these models will have been developed to better fit the 35 mpg CAFE standards (legislated in 2007 with graduated implementation from 2012 to 2020) and will be limited by the current economic woes of all the American carmakers.
I do not need another car. I drive my '87 Fiero GT daily to work (3 miles each way) and have three "hobby" cars already. But I'm saving to buy a new Camaro SS/RS a couple years from now, before musclecars are gone again. I just need to make sure that I get one before engine displacement and/or horsepower is reduced from the current 422hp LS3 6-speed manual. |

I find it amazing how many people are "torn" between the V6 and SS.
If you honestly don't care about "go" and you are really only in it for the "show" of the new camaro and don't need the price tag that comes with the "go" then the V6 is for you. If you are so worried about other people then this probably isn't the car for you. The camaro will be popular as a rarity for 6 months tops. Then they will be a dime a dozon and unless you are comfy with my first point you will kick yourself forever for not getting the SS. Now on the other hand if you are like me, there is only one camaro being offered. The SS. There is NO reason to even look at this car unless I am getting the SS. Period end of story. I am here for the engine, rumble, and everything else that goes with owning a muscle car. Had a Z28 in 1997 and my buddy bought the 1998 V6 Firebird. Hated himself for 8 years that he didn't spend the extra cash to get what he REALLY wanted. I understand why people want the V6 and I am thankful for them b/c they are the majority of the sales and keep the costs down for people like me I just wouldn't bother looking at this car for a 300 HP V6 to me that isn't what a camaro is all about. So my long point is get what YOU want. If you are regretting it now then you want the SS. In the market that it is in the V6 will be mostly all "show" and no "go" and when the "show" fades you will only be left with "oh you got the v6?" and be kicking yourself. (again unless you can be happy with that, most all the people I know aren't ever happy with the v6 stang or Fbody they bought. Only one daddy's girl that has a v6 stang was happy with it lol) |

^After reading that post I'm leaning back towards the SS. Dammit! I don't want the future cost but yes, it's the car I would much rather have. AHHHH!

Just wait a little longer saving up the difference in a larger down payment. I know everyone hates waiting but think about it.

If you don't know why you would want the V8, the only cure to be sure is to drive a V8 G8 GT or a Corvette LS3. Once you stomp on the gas pedal, you'll know for sure what you want. You've heard and felt V6's before. The Camaro V6 is awesome, but it's no V8.
Ask this guy...He has the LS3. Notice he is scared when he stomps it. The LS3 is too much for some buyers...Notice the smile after stomping it! This is fairly accurate.

IMO, the V8 is just to powerful for me. I think 300hp is way to much for me, but I have always wanted a camaro. And now since it's in my price range, I can one!! JUST STICK WITH THE V6!! You will get more MPG out of the V6.

He said it best, do it for yourself and nobody else. At the end of every month you will be making the car payment, not the person on the other side of the street. |
