I also have to add..I drove a 1975 Datsun B210 when I was 16 this was in 1982.it was my sisters car..handed down there was no car payment but my dad said you want a car? You pay for the insurance, the gas & maintance or your walking..guess what I did..GOT A JOB! Best first car I ever owned!!!

BUT..if your dad wants to buy you a car..nothing wrong with that. just remember...the one with the $$$ makes the rules!

Well, as sad as it is to see someone who like mustangs force one upon someone who doesn't want one...it's still better than nothing.

I'd do the BMW and stay away from the Mustang...just sayin'

This is an outrage...how dare he buy you a brand new car that you don't like with his own money.

This calls for a hunger strike...

Just curious, how old are you? Is this your first car?

I bought both my kids their first cars; my daughter got a new 2006 Scion tC, and my son got a new 2008 Scion tC. I picked the cars, as I was paying for them, and I made sure they both had the all the extra airbags.

They got cars they could mod if they wanted, they were good 4 bangers that got decent mileage, and I knew that with their displacement, they weren't going to kill themselves with a lot of power.

If I had to get them a car today as their first, or if they were in their mid teens, I wouldn't buy them a V8 Camaro.

...and if he's paying for 15-20K of it, he's paying for most of it.

I agree with your theory. But I read an article about the cars with the highest crash (and insurance cost) rating: Honda Civic, Scion tc, and Hyundia Tiburon.

Last year, I hooked a 20 year old employee up with a new 2008 Tiburon 4 cylinder. 7 weeks later it was totaled...a week later...he died...( in a different wreck . his 16 year old sister was driving, 80+ in a 45 zone)

The key is who's paying for it. If it's you tell him it's your money and you'll buy what you want. If it's him shut up and take what you get. Most kids are lucky to even get a car. Let alone a new car. Even more so a new Camaro. Personally my kids first car will be a reliable piece of crap. Just functional enough that they can get where they need to without dying, but crappy enough for them to truly appreciate a new car when they buy one for themselves.

OP,
Your dad might like the Mustang better, because of steeper discounts, and 0% financing.

I saw 3 Comaros in the last 2 days...and 500 Mustangs. My house keeper bought a Mustang. She shopped the Camaro, loved the Camaro, But Ford would take her ( $5k upside down) Ford Explorer trade.
