The auction on ebay for production car #3 is for an SS with manual transmission. To me, that means that SS's with the manual tranny will be the first produced.

From the auction:
The number three Camaro will be an SS model equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission, producing an estimated 422 horsepower rating. The winning bidder will have the opportunity to select color and additional factory-installed equipment. At the conclusion of the auction, the winning bidder will receive a certificate authorizing that GM will provide this vehicle to the bidder.

Interesting. Some believed that factory ordered stripes might be applied better than stripes installed at the dealer, since many would be installed on factory orders while each dealer would only be installing a few on Camaros sold by their dealership. I believe the nose-to-tail stripes on the Shelby GT500 are also added by an outside vendor and shipping delays were much longer than just 1 or 2 days. There were quality issues with the stripes applied on early production GT500s (alignment problems) that improved on later production cars.

I've read somewhere here on Camaro5 that the rally stripes do NOT extend onto the front fascia at all. The first gen Camaro Z/28 stripes extended all the way to the nose of the car. And the second gen Z/28 stripes carried onto the fascia (my hugger orange '70-1/2 Z/28 had black stripes like that). I know it will be easier to install the stripes (both at the factory and at various dealers) if they don't have to mess with the gap between the hood and front fascia or the "mail slot" non-functional scoop in the fascia of the SS. But I'm afraid that they made the decision to limit the stripes to the hood (and rear decklid) for those reasons, and the stripes won't look as good as they would have if they were more like the second gen Z/28 stripes.

Now, does this mean that these are the 1st cars off the line in these trim levels as ordered?? or am I reading into this too much? I take this as saying "hey guys, this is what combo you want in this trim level if you want one of the first ones off the line".

maybe this was talked about in another thread..if so I missed it..what say you?
That's REALLY interesting, Badger. I couldn't help but think to myself when I read that a few days ago - what the hell are these color recommensations all about? Yea, I can't see the car in person yet, but how does a recommendation by some GM yahoo make it any more visible/real to me??? You just may be right, but I'm leaving my order as is. Hmmm

I'm hoping for spring. I dont really wanna limit it to a date or month.. I'm 4 of 5 on a small dealers allotment, so I'm slightly nervous, but extremely patient!

I wouldn't be so concerned about an outside vendor taking so much extra time to apply the stripes, mainly because I've seen a vendor that the company I previously worked for that did vinyl wraps, and could wrap a whole car in like 2 hours, mint with no bubbles. These guys know their stuff and they are on site. more than likely GM has whatever company they are using park 4-6 installers at the plant and when a car rolls off that calls for stripes they roll it over to them in the prep area of the plant, they install the stripes, and thats it. Delays the car by maybe an hour.

i'm hoping for march delivery...i'm w/ ya on the stripes. can't they see that the stripes don't look right if they just cover the hood. thye car has a long nose and must, at the least go past the mailslot on the ss to look GOOD! the stripes can be just short of the nose/fascia but must go past the mailslot. they made me cancel my order for stripes...i look at TAGS avatar and the stripes go past the M.S. which makes the silver SS look so friggin good

The company that will be applying the stripe packages to the cars is directly beside the main plant. Should take no more then a few hours to a day to apply your stipes and head out to the gen auto yard for shipping.

I'm with Evotion....these are the factory recommended combos....not what they are stocking up for. If you look at the colors announced and the interior shots, the 2LT package will be a bit weak visually. The red jewel will look best with the black or titanium. Just a weak thought or two on a Sunday afternoon.

If that is the case then why would they designate a trim level for the color combo's?? Why not just say... "these colors look good together"...I don't see a reason to designate a trim level...maybe Scott or someone else from the Camaro Team can answer this question.

Well - I am hoping for early April - my dealer said no later than the end of April but I don't know how he could be positive of that, but he said I could have it as early as the beginning of March. I was number 7 at my dealer, but my dealer didn't place the orders until the evening of the 13th. I hope it doesn't get pushed back or else I am going to be very sad :(

I ordered mine on the 15th and was the 3rd order they had taken.
Their allotment is for 19 cars, 5 ss's for the year. All 3 orders were for SS's.
I was told not to expect delivery until April or May.

This is a very large dealer outside Pittsburgh.

PS - Yes, I realize the allotments may change after production starts, this is what they have been given as of the 17th which was the last time I spoke with them.

The perfect day would be Friday,Feb 27th. My B-day is the 26th and I'm off on Fridays. I could drive up and pick it up on the first day off after my B-day. Wow...that would be the best B-day gift ever. But I seriously doubt that will ever happen unless the planets align and production starts early.

Whenever they can deliver is fine for me. I just need time to arrange window tint, time off from work for a long drive to break this ride in....
