the only stock 400hp 5.0 I've seen is Saleen's - I doubt that's going into the new GT

If ford had drop the Mustang there would be no new camaro!GM has got to the point were they make what they feel is best and not what us buyers won't.The base LS should have a 350 hp v-8 starting @ $27,000 and that would kick the Mustang GT, and put the 300 hp v-6 in the LT.GM should have never drop the camaro.Mustangs have always been around they sale a lot of them....Say what you like but i don't won't a v-sick.And to get the 400 hp v-8 is not in my price range.People who buy the v-6 mustang, we call them pusstangs...And those of you who buy the SS will know what i mean.

sure GM could have put a smaller V8 in, but it wouldnt have solved anything, people would still complain that it wasnt powerfull enough or there wasnt enough of a difference in hp between the v6 and the "other v8"

Yea..but that's what the after market is for.Very few leave these cars stock.SCT tuner, CAI, rear gears, power adders, nos, you name it the maddness goes on.A small v-8 will sound much better and put a smile on your face....No matter what you do to the v-6 it will always sound like a v-6.....Call me old school.

There is solid info on the new Mustang GT....I will restate what I have already stated elsewhere and add just a bit of info I can discuss to divulge to it.

First, there is a 400+hp 5.0L V8 coming and we now know that instead of making at least 400hp and 360lb-ft of torque it makes at least 400hp and 370lb-ft of torque. In other words, hp and torque numbers are higher than that, as stated previously, we simply don't know how much higher (and a 400hp 5.0L is nowhere near Ferrari territory....BMW has a 400hp 4.0L in the new M3 and Ferrari's upcoming V8 produces something like 130+hp per liter) Also, said 400+hp 5.0L will be noticeably cheaper than a base Camaro SS. (Yes, I know within a reasonable margin how much it will be....no I can't tell you.)

We also know the Mustang will weigh very, very little more than the current model.....that weight saving program for the chassis apparently paid of. Think 3600-3650lb for a base GT and you will be very close. Handling gets much, much better as does braking.

To sum up people within Ford say they developed this car with one eye on Camaro SS numbers and that the 400hp 5.0-powered GT will have no problem with the SS on any performance front. (my flame suit is on, but do please note that I am simply quoting what folks associated with Ford are stating) In fact, the rumor is that this is the best handling Mustang ever by far and that it is in the same neighborhood in terms of acceleration...stock for stock of course.....as the Terminator. Take that for what you will. There will be a lot of surprises coming for the 2011 model cars.....I know I was surprised by much of what I now know.

Also, for the record, I am not an insider and don't pretend to be. That said the above is all rock solid although I cannot tell you why, what you personally believe about it is your prerogative. The 2011 Mustang GT is coming and is bringing it's A game.

The time is coming, at least now you wont be surprised. Well, I take that back....some things will still surprise you. However, the 400+hp 5.0L V8, 6-speed manual, and handling/brake upgrades wont surprise.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter to me whether folks believe it or not. But as an old saying goes, an individuals lack of faith wont make it any less true. The above is indeed coming, and as I stated earlier at least now you wont be surprised by it.

And like I said above, that is your prerogative...doesn't make it any less true. And that 400+hp V8 no doubt serves to make the hp wars a lot more interesting.

Also, FWIW, the true GM insiders know everything that I do....they know this is coming whether they will admit to it or not.

It's nitpicking, but hasn't Chevrolet said the LS3 for the Camaro is 422 hp, while the Corvette LS3 is 436 hp?

It's always been important for GM that the Corvette remains the flagship, and I think they have shared the Corvette engine with other cars before, but the other cars have always gotten a "de-tuned" version (like the GTO a couple years ago).

Assuming you are right, are they planning on a dohc motor? Just curious what your sources are telling you. I know ford produces a 5.4l dohc motor that is over 400 hp, it just seems like bs that they could now produce a 5.0l motor that is a SOHC that will put out over 400 hp and be as inexpensive to manufacture as the current motor. The increase in displacement just does'nt seem to be enough without adding a lot more rpm to reach the quoted numbers. And a 5.0l motor will only achieve that type of hp with lots of rpm so I would still be surprised to see it keep up with the new camaro. Here's to hoping ford will finally produce a mustang that is'nt embarrased by the camaro though!

As for handling upgrades, I think it is hard to believe they would stiffen the suspension as I think that would turn most people off when comparing to the camaro in terms of ride quality, etc. Thanks for the info though, it just sounds too good to be true for the mustang.
