Should I just do away with the stacker flange? and just solid weld them like DT Shorties?
when u get them take a good look at them look for quality if your completely happy and willing to take a 50/50 chance on getting a cel on your new ride.then go for it, i would try to weld them or have your dealer deal with them ..if not return them asap!!! get the DT nobody has posted a problem with them yet !

EW Cook county.. dude im sorry for your loss. I spent some time up there while going to school for the Navy. Theyre about as bad as california. I had a 99 turbo'd eclipse and they pulled me over all the time to see if my setup was illegal, which according to them it was and my only saving grace was being registered out of state.

Doug Thorleys are pretty nice though, and so far no complaints. This is where i'll be investing my hard earned scraps.

If you are going to install JBA's i would strongly recomend full weld on them and do away with the stacker flange. Do it up front and there shouldn't be any issues. I chased mine for a cpl weeks back in Feb or March somewhere and i can understand the frustration. dont understand why the gskt method didn't work for you. It did for me. Installed them with 6k miles and i now have 22K with no CEL since around 7K or so. Although my CEL came on for about 10 miles cpl mornings ago but it went away before i even had a chance to stop the car and plug it up ans see what it was.

Might be welding this weekend myself. lol

I think I will try welding in a new pipe to make up difference in the flange .sounds like a plan .I'm unhappy with jba and gm .gm should of put some type of hanger to hold exhaust at the mid point its basically hanging from the exhaust manafolds and two hangers in the back . Jba should of known that's a lot of weight to Hang on a v clamp I bet every time i go over a bump it opens and flexing open it get losers day by day

This is something I didn't think about. You might be on to something. Couple a two weak designs together, adn you can end up with a mess. No mid hangers, and a stacker flange/v clamp= possible bad news for those with JBAs.

I'll wager welding them up, and doing away with the stacker flange cures it. The gaskets might not have worked depending upon how warped the stacker got on the mid pipes during welding, or because the v clamp wouldn't tighten up enough. Or both, lol.

It's definitely something JBA needs to redesign ala AirRaid's tube!

Im in the middle of installing my JBA's, and the Dealer said to torque the Exhaust Manifold Bolts to 15 lb ft. That sounds to low to me. Any suggestions?

Does anybody have an auto and got a CEL? And once they got it, realized that the remote start stopped working?!

I got the lousy JBA CEL after 12k since install. Had my dealer remove the flange clamp and they used some exhaust cement around and on the stacker flanges.

The cement is sold by NAPA and the techs swear by it. They actually call it a gasket maker. Only time will tell, if it fails again, a full weld job will be next. Service manager said no problem with welding them up, but would like to try the cement first before I go to that expense.

I've driven almost 1k since the fix and no cel.

Below is the stuff they use.

ok.. here goes...

The rear O2 sensors are there strictly to monitor the cats... the front O2 sensors actually are used to make adjustments to the amount of fuel... Now even though the rear O2 sensors don't change anything and only monitor, they appear to have a "Long Term Fuel Trim". So as you are driving the rear O2 sensor is saying "Hey, you need to add more fuel... you need to add +2%". This is due to the exhaust leak (or so we think).

Now as I mentioned the rear O2s only monitor... so the computer ignores the +2%., so the A/F stays the same... But the rear O2 still things more fuel needs to be added... and then slowly the Long Term Fuel Trim will start creeping up... +2% becomes +10%... becomes +20%.. Eventually it will hit 54% .

At 54% the computer will actually throw the code, but it at this point it doesn't turn on the CEL. This fuel trim will actually go down too! If it drops below 54% and then goes back up to 54% it will then turn on the CEL.

I've watched these percentages closely on my car... I have seen it go right to 54% in a matter of 15 miles... and other times it may take a couple of days to hit 54%...

so... that is why you don't get the CEL right away...
Would doing a fuse pull and resetting the fuel map correct this for a temporary fix untill you can get a tune?

The Walker exhaust sealing compound really does work. Apply it betwween your header and midpipe and let it cure.

It doesn't say its sensor safe- so try not to get it inside the pipe.

If this fails try some generic gasket material from Summit Racing- in fact I've got some left over, pm me your address and I'll mail you some. You cut to fit.

I had the same issue, but the JBA shorts will run with no CELs.

Any updates to the CEL issue? Has JBA made any attempt to address the issue? I'm in the market for headers now and had my eye on JBA, but am kinda leary now after reading this thread.

I've had mine on for almost a year now and NEVER a cell ! When I installed mine I used some exhaust gasket material and made a round gasket ( Looks like a Donut Gasket ) to install between the 2 flanges and covered both side with Red Hi temp RTV . Sealed up Great No leaks-- No Cells !
Here is a pic ..
