There is zero chance that I would get the Z if it didn't out perform the GT 500 in every testing category. I just hope they are keeping an eye on the regular 5.0 too. Ford is getting ready to release the 5.0 boss that is over 440hp and a minor upgrade in the price point.
Who's to say that the 2012 GT 500 (or whatever they want to call their new special mustang by then) isn't equipped with a s/c 6.0 or larger engine putting out 600+ hp? How long have Mustang fans been screaming for a better rear end? With the drop in sales since the Camaro has come out, you know they are researching what they need to do to kill the Camaro again. Ford brought out a very well built 4951cc motor to get back the 5.0 mistique. That motor has been done for nearly a year and they haven't been thrilled with the gt500 using their truck motor with a s/c so my bet is the replacement has already begun testing. If you are going to take the title from the champ, you've got to out work the champ. Anything less is a waste of time making your way to the ring. We've all seen what happens when a company let's their design stagnate haven't we.

I would buy a GT 500 if I had the money no matter what the z does , because 1. The dealer markup on the Z is going to be incredible. and 2. I already have an SS and adding a 500 would just be awesome to have to go along with my car.

here is the real question is GM going to let the z28 kill the base vette, just to gain what you guys call gt500 pie. how many do they even sell? is it worth it ?

I just hope GM isn't only using the '11 GT500 and not thinking by the time Z28 comes out, it's a sure bet that GT500 will either be ready for an upgrade or one will follow very soon.
That's how the horsepower wars go, though Good stuff

I'm getting an ss either way, but I've got faith in gm. There is no question that they are capable of building a gt500 beater, it's just how high they're willing to take the price and if they'll let it outperform the vette. I'd be more interested if they had gone with the ls7, but it doesn't look like they're going that direction.

My personal opinion, I would not buy the Z28 if it does not outperform the GT500 in the same price range.
I really want the Z28 with that warranty and out performance of the GT500. GM, look at what other have done in modding the SS and work your magic once again. |

I don't see an issue...
with performance....safe maggie tunes with tubular headers and a CAI BOX think ADm or Cold air inductions....will even make a L99 put down in the 510- 540 range couple that with coilovers, subframe bushings, trailing arms... upgrade bushing around. 6 pot cts-v fronts and stadard 4 pot SS rears.. improved sway bars maybe shod them in Nto5's upgrade the interior abit...some exterior styling cues 45-47k for a kick ass Z28... damn just s/c the LS3 to save manufacturing costs. 6 .5 psi. and throw in a better blower cam. done. Not rockect science all the parts are there on the shelf.

The Z28 will be faster than the GT500 because the Mustangs have problems launching and getting that power down. Even though the Camaro is heavier it will still be quicker. I would like to see them get the suspension sorted out.
I am still in shock in knowing that a Mustang handles better than a Camaro. lastly, it doesn't really matter if a Z28 is quicker than a stock Corvette. At lot of guys get caught up with that and throughout history GM has had cars quicker than the Vette. The Vette still will crush it on a roadcourse. The Vette is a sportscar and the Camaro is a pony car. 2 different things and 2 different demographics. |

Also most people who buy a camaro buy it for what it is, A CAMARO, while people who buy corvettes buy it for what it is, A CORVETTE. So really even if the z28 was as much as even the grand sport people would buy it just to have the fastest factory camaro, not something as expensive as but most likely slower than a base corvette.
