SO if a dealer was alloted 5 Camaros, and they were all orderd as SS's, what happens to those numbers when GM forces them to take a V6, against thier allotment?

Or "estimated shipment number"

Hi all.

Newbie here.

So have those of you who have pre-orders in with dealers on SS models received a commitment on sale price then (i.e. MSRP or some reasonable amount over/under)? Are Chevy dealers agreeing to sticker price?

As it now sounds like SS models will be in short supply for quite awhile, I'm wondering if Chevy dealers will do what Ford dealers did with GT500s.... and put $10K mark ups on them for the first couple years.

I don't know if fbodfather's presence as a visible member of the Camaro community was part of GM's plans for the marketing and community involvement of GM but he has become the face of GM to the community. Like it or not, that's the case. I feel like GM's marketing department, more than any other, is failing miserably. They chose to bring the car out over summer. They chose to allow preorders. They need to provide information to the community. They tried to go about the process in a new way that had never been done before but they half-assed it; they are only doing HALF of the things in new ways. Why hasn't there been a press release about this? Official word should have come from GM at the start of the first IDL today. The IDL should have been broadcast on the internet to anyone who was interested enough to watch it. I don't care if it was supposed to be for dealers... this isn't the 1970s anymore!!! They started off strong (podcast on the day ordering started for example) but have been completely absent as of late.

If you want a reference to see how having a community contact and face for a product can be done successfully, look at "Major Nelson" for the Microsoft's Xbox. He started off similar to how fbodfather did (just posting on websites, etc) but has transcended that into being the official voice for the Xbox team. GM and the Camaro team could benefit GREATLY from something like that. It doesn't mean telling everybody everything. It just means being honest about what you can and cannot say and telling people that.
That's a pretty good idea. We need someone with an official military sounding name, like perhaps a "Captain". That's the ticket!

Welcome to the site. Search for the MSRP or under dealers thread. There are some dealers that agreed to sell us our cars at MSRP. That was before the news today so not sure if that changes anything as you indicate in your last paragraph though. Tough to tell at this point and probably very dealer dependent. There were some dealers giving deposits back to people who ordered and this may be one reason why (just speculation though).

My take after reading all of these pages and watching the video is this (and couple questions):

Why didn't GM release information up front to at least the dealers to say...of your allocations, you can order X number V6 and X number V8? Seems that would have been the best thing to do!

Second...if yo uhave preorders, why not fill those orders first? I know GM wants the V6 out there but if you have sold orders...I mean they are sold!! Make this limited production run (3 quarters of 2009) simply for preorders! Then if things are left over produce what the marketing survey said. Don't tell the consumer what they want...they already to you what they want this year!

Finally...is there a possibility that V8 cars will nto get produced this year (all that have been ordered)? Also...what is meant by "limited". Does that mean if everyone wanted a V8 Camaro you couldn't buy one?

There's the problem...the Order wan't placed. A "pre-order" was taken. Until a dealer is allocated cars and an order is submitted, nothing has happened.

CAFE is most likely a big part of this, more v6 brings total cafe up.

since the assy line is a flex line, they should be able to pump both out at a good rate.

im sure romulus or tonawonda can make enough blocks for these motors. they are making less trucks, should mean more v8 engine production capacity has been freed up

well they had told us before that they would have no problem making as many v8 as v6. so whats the deal? why limit them? and why punish the people who have been true to the car and have helped spread the good word of gm. were the ones trying to help the company and give them a good name and all i want to do is pay them for a car. now why cant this happen? its like they dont want our money.

im going to say somethign that is going to be widely unpopular on this board, and I dont think its right but needs to be stated.

GM is going to make its money on the V6, thats why they are making the majority of V6's. they are building those to make money, because thats what people are going to buy. GM will never sell enough V8s to make their money back on this car. To say that V6's arent what people want and thats why GM is in trouble is just ignorant. GM is in trouble and is trying to make money and the way to do that is to make the V6.

all of that said i think GM should reward EVERYONE that has pre-ordered a camaro regardless of if its a V6 or a V8. Do i understand the frustration, without question and I think that anyone that has preordered a camaro should get their car before the summer, but with that said GM especially right now is in the business of making money

Ugh, my brother is a ford dealer and he called me today to rub it in that a mustang will beat any 2010 camaro made. And then he laughed and said cuz GM is all screwed up and probably cant even produce one 2010 camaro in 2009. I cant wait to prove him wrong when my SS Camaro arrives! I can only hope it arrives this year. If not, i'll probably purchase a challenger and sell it next year when my camaro arrives. I cant wait to see his face when I drive my new camaro to his ford dealership!

yup. if everyone wanted the v8 or even 3/4. its not gonna happen. this is one way of the govt. controlling us and not letting us have what we want. probably due to CAFE restrictions. or some terms to the bail out.
