Was it a "refresh" in '68 when they took away the vent windows?

Actually in the 50's and 60's and some early 70's cars changed at least grills and taillights and usually chrome trim every year. Most cars were also completely redesigned every 2 or 3 years. The 69 was more of a refresh because it also added the gills, different hood and interior updates.

I was just kidding, but I do wonder how much has to change before it's considered a "refresh."
For example, the 2012 Gen5's changed the V6 motor and updated the interior (new steering wheel, new dash, etc.). Was that hailed as a refresh at the time? I don't remember. |

So, that still begs the question: Does it take fascia changes to be considered a refresh? Major engine changes?
I understand that much more of the sheetmetal (and perhaps the engine) has to change before it's a new generation, but the whole "refresh" definition eludes me. Seems like refresh is more cosmetic in nature, but people are speculating about twin turbo V6's and Z/28's in this thread, but those seem like pretty major changes to me.

just to be clear, that is not an 82 Camaro. I agree that with the success of the 5th Gen, I wouldn't expect any drastic changes for the refresh. They will change a few lines, particularly in the front of the car. I wouldn't rule out a new engine or at least some power bumps, but probably nothing too drastic. The fact that they are doing a refresh at all does make me question the assumption that we are getting a sixth gen in 2016 or so. A refresh seems like a lot of trouble for only two years.

Engine options can be added or removed at any time as Chevrolet sees a need or desire arise. When Chevrolet changed the V6 from an LLT to an LFX engine, that was not a refresh, that was just a powerplant update given new technologies that became available. Given how only so much of the exterior of the Camaro can be modified without major body work, I imagine the refresh potential lies squarely in the front and rear fascias with a little potential left over for changes in the front fenders, hood, trunk lid and side mirrors. I like the idea of the Leno front fascia being mass produced, but everything is purely speculation at this point without any kind of spy photos to go off of. Meh, so sue me ![]() Quote:
It's not unheard of to go through the trouble for only one or two model years

Yeah, the mustang has had two refreshes and a powertrain update in the last 3 model years. The next gen mustang is expected to arrive in the 2015 model year. Chevrolet doing the same doesn't mean there isn't a 6th gen on the way soon.

For example, Impala ditched the 3.5L/3.9L V6s and 4-speed automatic for the LFX and 6-speed automatic for 2012/2013, despite a brand new Impala arriving Q1 2013 for the 2014MY.

I'm also ready to order a 1LE. The only feature I'm hoping the 2014 offers is a blind spot warning system. Otherwise I'm ordering a 2013.

The blind spot warning system would be awesome. Especially with the rear visibility of the Camaros.
