Ok just got my car a couple months ago and all I have done to it is a K&N drop in filter, Vitesse throttle controller (still cant wipe the smile off my face from SP9 lol), otherwise bone stock. I went to dyno my car to get a base tune and was dissapointed either with the shop or with my car... first of all, they could not get the dyno to record the runs and just kept trying and trying with my car on there. After about 6 runs it finally gave out a result, which was 343whp and 319wtq. After seeing what most of these cars dyno, I couldnt help but expect a little more. Now right before I left the shop owner said that the guys messed up and ran it in 3rd gear and told me to come back anytime and he would run it again free of charge. Im taking it back in a couple weeks I was just curious if dynoing in 3rd makes that much difference, or maybe the engine got heat soaked after so many trial runs pretty much within a minute or less off of each other. I also left the AC on and they didnt notice it so it was left on the whole time and the dude that was in my car got bored I guess and started to mess with the throttle controller because when I got back in the car, it was on eco3 setting. heres the pic of the dyno sheet.. what do you guys think?

when my shop (lashway motorsports) dynoed my car, they did it in 4th and not 3rd for all of the runs

yea I know 4th is 1:1 in our cars but I think they were doing it in 3rd to get quicker test runs to see if the dyno was working, and just forgot to do a last one in 4th once they figured it out.

I made 419/408 today with intake, headers, ported throttle body, and tune.

Some, older dynos are maxed out on speed at a certain MPH. So some have to run the fifth gen in third hear. There is a formula you can use, some build into the dyno and some need to do it manually, to calculate the HP in 4th gear even when doing a 3rd gear pull, its somewhat accurate. "somewhat". Tuners can use the data but most prefer to have a 4th gear pull. As for the throttle controller, it wont matter what setting its on, as long as its WOT when they start the data acquisition. Me personally I would keep it on either ECO0 or SP0 thats the stock setting. There is no measurable increase or decrease in power, regardless of setting. A drop in filter wont get you jack squat, so don't be too disappointed in that. Get yourself that free dyno run they owe you and tell them to leave the deadbeats at home!

And then if you ever do anything else, like headers, take it to a dyno shop that has their shit together...

I will definitely go get my free run and will post results, hopefully better this time lol.
Do you guys think I should pick a shop and always dyno there whenever I do mods to keep it consistent or does that not really matter? I plan to make my own down pipes with highflow cats in a few months and want to dyno afterwards. |

If you can stay with the same dyno. The before and after results are what you want to pay attention to. It's the gains from a mod that count. Not the end reading. Everybody's dyno reads different, so you always pay attention to the gains. Using a different dyno will blur that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In other words, always use the same dyno and try to do the run during similar atmospheric conditions.

That is so true. Dyno's vary quite a bit. So try to stay on the same dyno. |

I could care less about dyno numbers. I know for a fact that my setup works and ive proven it time and time again on the street outrunning other 5th gens with larger cams and more power. I simply used the dyno for its intended purpose. As a tuning tool to make sure the nitrous works and make adjustments as needed to optimize the setup.
Heres attached dyno on my 150 shot pull 4* pulled timing. I think i could afford to lean it out a tad and make a little more but im trying not to be greedy with 93 octane. |
