I wanted something Celtic that was strongly masculine with an air of mysticism to it.

Please note that I am a very strong Christian so I have no religious ties to the names I chose. I am, however, Welsh/Irish, a scientist, and an historian so I'm very interested in Celtic traditions and how those ancient people developed religion to explain what we often use science to illucidate.

Hence I gave my car the name Merlin Taliesin, both of whom were ancient Celtic/Welsh mystics purported to live under these precepts:

First: Labor diligently to acquire knowledge, for it is power.

Second: When in authority, decide reasonably, for your authority may cease at the next moment.

Third: Bear with fortitude the ills of life you can do nothing about, remembering that no mortal sorrow is perpetual.

Fourth: Love honor for it bringeth peace of mind.

Fifth: Abhor selfishness for it bringeth evil upon all.

Sixth: fight for the rights of the few that they may not be crushed by the desires of the many, and

Sixth: look carefully at those in power and authority that they are following the above six precepts.

Way before the Arthurian tales were written Merlin & Taliesin were around in Celtic/Welsh religion and were thought by the ancient Celts to be positive forces with respect to the arts & crafts, divination, enchantments, psychic abilities, fire, healing, magic, music, and knowledge. I really liked the ideas wrapped around these two ancient figures so I thought those names would be appropriate.

There ya go - that's why Merlin is Merlin. He does, however, on occasion go by the nickname of MeTal. Just so happens to spell 'metal' - how appropriate!

boy you guys put in alot of thought to names. It came easy to me... I have halo's so I had to get a name to go with that. and I know a redheaded Heather so Heather halo. I almost never use her middle name though.

and my name idea for the group is OVCC (ohio Valley cool cars) that way the pontiac fans won't be left out. and if some Honda Insight wants to join we can say sorry your not cool enough.

oh and yes count me in too. I'll be the bouncer to the meetings I can easily bounce an Insight outta sight if one should show up.

ps with that last statment I might not pass the non-creepy part of the entrance criteria. I'll await the decision on my application.

PpS. I'm still planning on a trip to K-mart friday. The 14th and 21st I have other plans.

Odly enough, my last command in the Navy had the logo "Advocati Diaboli", the devil's advocates. We imployed ememy tactics to train our guys on how to counter them.

Well, if I'm the advocate, I need my devil. In this case, my blue devil "DIABOLI".

I think you all know that i canx my order with a certain chevy car dealer, I wont menchen thier name (on main street). Due to them not being up front with me. And found me one at Langs, thanks to some people on here. Anyway, the car is still being produced and is schedule to be built the week of aug. 24. I am still keeping an eye on it. It is a 1Lt with RS and connection package, color cyber gary with back interior. price to me was to be around 29500.00 and that is with destention, tax and doc fees included. If you all know of anyone wanting it. Email me and I will give the order number, so it can be tracked and when it would be in. Just trying to help the people out that do not want to wait.
The club sounds good. The wife and i are going to try and make it to Kmart this friday, if i do not have to work late.
Everyone has of thier cars on here.

great reasons for names you guys and gals. Seems the next few fridays are going to be tough. We will get this going.

So an update on Rocsanne (my 89 IROC), if anyone had any idea she was sick... tranny is SHOT. chunks of metal and brass in the pan. Since the car has such a story and sentimental value to me beyond what any other car could... I am shelling out the dough to have it rebuilt. I should have her back before this weekend. I am just glas she will be back on the road. Soon Rene` and Rocsanne can be together! I am just PISSED I have to use my Borla, CAI and short throw shifter money to fix her. Oh well, there is always next year for the mods.

Maybe it's a good thing you spent your money on Rocsanne instead of mods. Who knows what kind of kicka$$ tune will be developed between now and then since you're gonna most likely want one if you're doing both CAI & exhaust :-)

Congrats! Hope to see 'im when you're able to come by the cruise in.

And I loved the story behind your IROC - amazing to find the exact car, 15 years later! I have a 14-year-old and I'm not selling my '99 Firebird.

Looks like we've got a great evening for the KMart Cruise-In coming up! I hope to be out by 4:30- 4:45 pm if all goes well at work today. I'll be coming solo so don't know how many places I can save for others.

I can view the forum at work but can't reply, so this is my post for the day. Hope to see a forum member or two there - especially so I don't have to answer a zillion questions all by myself like I did early in the cruise-in season!

Hey LIB, hope to see you! I still need to hear your car!

I was able to wash mine last night, and don't need to do kid taxi-ing, so I'm going to shoot for getting there between 5-5:30. Maybe you can toss a lawn chair or two into a spot beside you? That way we can share in the question-answering. Although it's slacked off a little - there were probably 6-8 new Camaros there last Friday (including Diaboli! )
