90 digree V6 engines are inherently unbalanced because the pulses are at uneven intervals. As such each engine must have a balance shaft. Every 4.3 I've experienced hasn't really had any balance issues but they were all balance shaft engines.

My reply to firefighter was just giving my view of the 4.3 V6s I have owned in the past. I edited my post to clarify.

I've owned 3 S/T trucks all 4.3L a 1991 2dr Blazer and a 2003 2dr Blazer plus I currently keep a 1998 extended cab for utility use. The two Blazers had a combined 325K miles on them and to be honest the mounts on them spent more time torn than not. On the '03 I installed some mounts from JTR that was supposed to end the tearing issues they did but this is when I realized just how much they shook. If the idle was anything below 750 RPM the whole truck rocked and rattled. I found it quite annoying. Until then I felt similar to you with the thinking they didn't shake soo bad. It's really odd like it was said they are inherently imbalanced due to the nature and fireing order. I've been used to a Left to Right shake in old cammed SBC's but the 4.3L does a fore to aft thing and it is a nightmare to counteract even with the balance shaft. In stock form they are pretty smooth but when you have idiots (like me) try to hot rod them you get trouble. This is why I wonder how the new 4.3L will work. I can assume that it will structurally have similar issues being a 90* V6 like the old 4.3L but in it's favor it has the advantage of a vastly more advanced fueling system and computer control. The odds of me owning one are slim as I am now going to be a Camaro guy and moving back to my V8 roots but I'm still curious. I wouldn't mind seeing one in a Colorado tyoe truck with a 6 speed auto. I could use a compact crew cab p/u in the next few years. I refuse to buy another 4 spd auto though and I don't like the inline 4 or 5 that the Colorado has. I though about the 5.3L version. I bought the '98 Dime with cash and have a few bucks into it. It'll do well for an occasional ride to Home Depot and my weekly pool route. These are the mounts I installed... http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Par...entMounts.html ... they were durable and wouldn't tear but hell they shook. BTW... I din't see the first unedited version of your post but I have thick skin and I realize the internet is difficult ot interpet sometimes. |

Ok I understand now why I never had a problem with the motor mounts and you did. Mine all remained stock, I just remembered I actually had 6 with the 4.3 ,when you have owned as many cars as I have you forget a few, 3 S-10 Blazers, and 3 full sized pickups, my first was a 88 S10 Blazer and my last was a 2004 Chevy Silverado. I had an 89 Chevy Scottsdale that I pulled a pop-up camper with and took to to Florida and Canada. And got 20 MPG doing it. That's the one I gave to my son when he turned 16.

Based on all the Corvette pics that preceded the car in thinking minor interior and front and rear tweaks with a modest HP bump or we'd have seen a leak by now.

I really don't understand what you're trying to say. I didn't say that you said it was impossible. I was responding to your, "A refresh seems like a lot of trouble for only two years," comment, and I provided instances where just the Camaro line-up alone has had refreshes within a year to two of the next generation being debuted. And as far as 1991 being a refresh, from wikipedia: Quote:

So, you're saying that the point of a refresh is to keep the car relevant but only if it happens with more than 3 years before the next generation is supposed to debut? ![]()
