In my experienced opinion....1 month from today, there will still be no one with their ZL1 sitting in their garage.

*consults his magic8ball... magic8ball, what's really going on in Oshawa?
-The Perma-Grin factory is currently reflashing the ZL1's computer & tweaking some components for "temporary" overboost on a fully depressed accelerator pedal. REALLY? -Have I ever lied to you before? Well, yeah, you have! -It's TOPSY KRETS... so don't tell nobody! ![]() oOoPs, OK! Thanks magic8ball. -Like Al O says: Coming Spring 2012; that's 8 more daze! The "delay" memo was for dramatic effect. Announcing an earlier release date will make them heroes... It's a carefully orchestrated conspiracy by Psy-Ops units within Marketing. You know... some mk_ULTRA, Project Artichoke guys.

Personally... You would expect GM to turn these into 13' models for "value protection" their are already 2013 models on the road right now... this should be no different...

I am sure that the hold is well worth waiting for...Would you rather get it and it be stcuk at the dealer for 2 weeks or wait two weeks and it arrive flawless.
Sure there are probably going to be some issues like when they launched the 5th Gen but that is to be expected.....But I am sure it will be everything people want.

It appears to me that many who aren't involved in the research, development, design, manufacturing, or quality control of a complicated mass produced product which includes hardware, software, firmware, electrical, and mechanical components, and that is partial or fully regulated by government standards, often don't understand the complexities or costs involved with designing, debugging, testing, including verification and validation, manufacturing, quality control processing, and changing such a product.
Many often don't realize the details that are involved with the actual implementation involved with such a product. At a high level the process may seem relatively simple, but when the details of implementation must be executed, the process can become very complex. For example, the documentation costs alone can be immense. There is usually a development and quality process that includes a marketing requirement specification at the highest level. At the next lower level there is a product requirements specification, and at the next level below there are hardware, software, and firmware system requirements specifications, and at the next level below that there are hardware, software, and firmware individual module requirements specifications. All of the dosuments and requirements from each level must be traceable, both upward and downward, via a traceability matrix, to ensure that there are no orphaned or childless requirements. There is a quality system and process that must be properly followed, which specifies procedures and work instructions, including how the documentation, hardware, software, and firmware is to be controlled. Every time a there is a change that is implemented, the requirements document pyramid is affected, and from top to bottom all of the associated traceable requirements must be verified and updated accordingly, as required. The product must be developed so that it not only meets all of the design requirements, but it also must be designed so that it can be manufactured effectively and consistently on a mass produced basis. Producing a handful of products is very different task from having to produce thousands of products where each unit produced must meet the identical quality manufacturing standards and tests. A complex product usually involves obtaining parts from many vendors and subcontractors, who must be audited, and those parts must be integrated to produce the final product. The parts must be received, logged into a tracking system, and inspected to ensure that they meet quality standards. Only if the parts meet quality inspection standards do the parts become available for use in the final product. Those complex procedures, processes, and documentation exist because without them it would be almost impossible to produce a consistent, reliable, quality mass produced product that meets customer needs and expectations. As with most mass produced products, all units that are built at the beginning of the production process are intensely and carefully inspected to enusre that they meet quality standards. Once the production process has been properly validated and determined to meet quality standards, which may or may not involve a change or changes to the process, going forward, production units don't need to spend as much time under intense quality inspection as the initial units were, since the production process has been properly validated. After the production process has been validated some units will be randomly selected for intense quality inspection, and if issues are found, or customer issues are reported, all units will once again be intensely inspected until the issues have been resolved. The next time that one thinks about whining that something related to the ZL1 isn't to one's liking, or happening fast enough, or that an option isn't available at the moment, one should stop for a moment and think about the things that are required from start to finish to mass produce such a vehicle. If one does, one may decide that whining may not really be appropriate.

Keep posts respectful and on topic. Being rude is not permitted (if you were just joking - I'm sorry; however - emotions are high and there's no need to flame any fires).

Nice job Goldenbear, but as others have said, it's not going to make any difference at all I fear, to give a reasonable, logical explanation.
There are people here that either won't listen or choose not to listen to reason. They want their cars NOW, and will only believe that there is some sort of conspiricy at work, or that there MUST be something majorly wrong with the cars that GM is trying to cover up. I suppose that's just human nature. No matter how many times you or Fbodfather or others try to explain that it's a normal process, they will choose to not believe it. They only want to believe the worst. I'm sure that if nobody ever states what the 'real' delay was due to, somebody will choose to start a rumor and soon that rumor will grow until there will be a widespread panic. If somebody DOES reveal that there was indeed some sort of issue, then everyone will be convinced that their car still has that problem and will condemm GM for producing an imperfect car and will demand that GM replaces their cars with a new one. ONG, they let the cars sit OUTSIDE? OMG, the tires will be ruined because we were told not to even STORE them in <20 degree weather. No matter what, somebody will be unhappy. Relax people, they will come when they are ready. |
