Granted this is from Tesla and even I have some skepticism when it comes to the data coming from them, but according to their data, the average degradation is 12% over 200,000 miles.

…"Bolt EV/EUV are only GM EVs that do not use Ultium batteries and platforms."
So what? "They are the last US vehicles built on the ICE Gamma platform." Again, so what? Prior to this announcement, the Bolt was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now it's suddenly another nuisance to GM that can't be discarded soon enough. Is it impossible for GM to actually just expand it's offerings? Must something always be ended for something else to be manufactured? Why not keep the Bolt in the portfolio? Old platform, but selling like hot-cakes...Isn't that the "printing money" scenario? Is the Bolt some sort of failure? Prior to today gm was singing it's praises as a success and their trophy low-cost EV. This is classic GM. No wonder there is no brand loyalty. "They will eventually be replaced by similar sized, lower priced EVs that are Ultium based." Really? I guess we should "just wait"...lol Any replacement will be more expensive. The Bolt was just too low priced. Of course the new low cost 30K (5K more) Equinox will be the low price leader. Thousands more than the Bolt, but whose counting?...lol. Sheesh, this whole EV transition just stinks more and more. |

The plant that currently makes the Bolts is being repurposed to make the Silverado EV. More pricey and more profit. Also, since the Bolts are not on the latest architecture with the latest battery tech they are not “the greatest thing since sliced bread” and were never claimed to be such by anybody who mattered. They were the first reasonably priced EV to get better than 200 miles per charge, but the new bogey is 300. GM is soon to start production of the larger, longer range Equinox EV (>300 miles per charge) for less than the Bolt originally cost and slightly more than the recently reduced price Bolt was selling for. So, for now, the Bolt is being replaced in the plant by Silverado EV, in the showroom by Equinox EV, and in its size class by an even lower priced replacement. No need to keep it around.

Bummer when you charged to 120 miles of range but it only translates to 60 miles of range in the real world.

It will be interesting for extending the viability of ICE for vehicles in operation, but it’s still not zero emissions, so it won’t move the needle in states where zero emissions is required. It also won’t undo any of the OEM focused plans to convert their portfolios to electric.
Price per gallon hasn’t been discussed yet, but if it’s anywhere near the price of synthetic gas in Europe it will be a non-starter.

". There are only 53,000 electric charging stations in the U.S. compared to 145,000 gas stations,"
I just read this a bit deeper, the disparity is a lot higher. Gas stations have many pumps. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/a...114500321.html
