My dad's been looking for a fourth gen Camaro/Firebird. What do you guys think of this one? I'm not sure what to think about it. The carfax states that there was an accident/damage report back in 2003. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

I owned two fourth gens previosly and can give you some insight to common issues they may have. Check the rear transmission mount. I've driven a couple that the tranny was so loose that the shifter could move the tranny.

Check axle seals and pinion seal. Bad leaks on both my 4th gens.

Roll the windows up and down a few times to make sure the window motor or regulator isn't broken. The window issue is so common its ridiculous.

I put rear shocks on my 99 convertible SS and had to replace the fuel pump. The shocks were super easy and if it needs them they're also not expensive.

Also, whats the mileage? I can't seem to find it on the ad. I watched the video which claimed less than 1000 miles which I highly doubt. I sold my 99 SS convert with 113000 miles for $7000.

The back window on my top would leak just a little bit in the rain. Never concerned me though cause I didn't drive it in the rain.

They are great cars and a lot of fun to drive. I just never liked doing repairs. Everything is hard to get to, except the rear shocks of course. I miss that car sometimes

That's a pretty sweet looking car! The less than 1,000 miles is just crazy - of course that's wrong. Maybe they meant 101,000? I'd be stoked if my dad got that car - better than the Prius he currently drives......:(

If you look at the Carfax report, is says that the last reported mileage was 100,026. Pretty hi mileage if you ask me.

Ya, I'd probably hold out for a private party sale from someone who loves their car. I would think this wouldn't take too long since there are so many around. Then you can get maintenance records, history, a good story to pass on, and no sales tax. Seems like original owner out there will have a really clean car they need to sell eventually. Just my thoughts.

Just a thought but check out LS1tech.com The classified section there has some very nice cars, or maybe AZFBA.com since they are a local forum. I miss my 2000 Trans Am like crazy sometimes. Cheapest performance car you can get for your buck, and with the right mods they are insanely quick.

Welcome back! Hope all went well. You'll have to share all your C5F III stories soon!

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll pass the info on to my dad. I think he's going to pass on that car in Avondale and keep looking.

Anyone know anyone who has a set of stock tires for sale? Was going to buy a new set of the BFGs this weekend and wouldn't you know it, the Taurus came up with separating tread. Can you believe tires for the Taurus are more expensive than tires for the SS?
