Just so everyone knows it is possible- if you drive like grandma and shift before 2 grand and don't take it above 65...

But really, commuting 25 miles one way (mostly freeway) I get about 22.5 MPG driving it how I want, which usually isn't slow.

Just thought this would be fun to share.

Why the high octane? The last 2 tanks I have averaged 29 mpg, actual not on the DIC. 115-120 round trip per day. Average speed 48-49 mph.

I'm not driving like a Grandma, usually with traffic but on occasion faster than traffic. Sometimes you just want to GO!
Still avg 27-29.7 mpg.

mine gets about 2.5 mpg better on 91 octane than 87. depending on prices, it sometimes works out to more miles/dollar with super!! around 6.25 mi/$ on 87 and 6.5 mi/$ on 91. so iam sticking to 91!

i see around 23 on 87, and 25.5 on 91. mixed driving, take it easy most the time, avg around 40mph, mostly freeway, 55-65, but is hilly. 22 miles each way to work/home daily. avg around 70.00 to fill it up.

I was told locking 6th gear in using paddleshifters or in manual helps to prevent the engine from kicking up the rpms by shifting down to maintain speed.

This is using cruise control of course to max fuel economy (6th gear in manual mode).

I just set the cruise at 70 mph while in S mode. RPM's float right around 1830.

if you do short trips around the city, it is brutal. With my M6, I need to get up to about 3000rpm before i shift into 2nd and third so that I can keep up with traffic. The short trips just kill me on gas an I go through about $80 a week jdriving about 250km
On the highway the car is great, but I rarely do that and when Im on the highway im gunning it on the on ramp lol

1RS 6 speed manual with almost 1300 miles on it. 20 inch wheels with 245 & 275 tires.

1st tank, mostly 8 miles to work and back, fairly spirited driving, but taking care to not exceed the break in parameters: 16.9 mpg

2nd tank same driving, but a bit slower: 17.7 mpg.

3rd tank about 30% freeway driving, the rest to work and back. Had the fuel mileage screen on continuously to remind me to drive for max economy: 20.7 mpg.

The DIC has been within 0.1 mpg on all three tanks. Working on the 4th tank now.

Resetting the DIC fuel economy while driving at various speeds to get semi instantaneous economy readings:

25 MPH in 3rd: about 20 mpg
35 MPH in 4th: about 25 mpg
40 MPH in 5th: about 30 mpg
65 MPH in 6th: about 31 mpg
Up a steep hill on the way to my house, 30 MPH in 2nd gear: 6 mpg
Driving about 20 miles of short trips 1 to 3 miles in length around my house over last weekend: 14.0 mpg.

Don't get me wrong, I love the car & knew about the economy when I bought it. But, especially for a direct injection car, the Camaro really does get pathetically bad fuel economy. Most sedans with comparable sized non-DI engines and weight will beat it by 5 mpg around town, and match it on the freeway. I would guess this is because the ECU programming is heavily optimized for power at the expense (literally) of fuel economy. What it needs is multiple driver selectable fuel curves for the ECU. Something like Power, Balanced, Economy. I love the power, but I hate spending the fuel when I'm droning along in traffic.

Mine didn't really start getting good mileage until I hit the 2000 mi. mark. Keep monitoring it and see how you do. I was getting 18-19 around town before the turbos and 30 hwy. Since then I haven't paid that much attention to MPG.

even with my e85 and stoich being 9.7 I am still managing around 23mpg. This is not from driving like a old lady either lol
before that with gas I was getting like 25-26mpg and sometimes 28-29 if I am doing my speed limit around 60-65mph.
