Working up the courage to cut a hole in the hood

I'm trying to work up the same courage... that first cut is going to be hard.

And I went ahead and ordered the rain tray too. It will be nice to have the option to run it or not run it.

What are you planning on using to cut it?

2014 Heat extractor on a 2010 hood

Air tools (cheap from harbor freight)

Started making the straps too since I don't plan to use the rain deflector much

The metal on the hood cuts like paper, you'll need tin snips also. It's not hard at all to do, you'll be fine.

I asked an auto body guy that's a customer of ours and he told me not to use any kind of saw where the blade goes up and down. He said it could distort the metal at the edge. Might not but could. He recommended using a die grinder and cutoff wheel and just take your time so you don't overheat the paint. Just cut a little at a time then let it cool. Guess I'll just start with that and go from there. I don't think the cutoff wheel will go deep enough to cut through the bracing though.

I put mine 16- 3/8s inch from the top of the hood (closest to the windshield). It is #4 in the directions on page One. Others have made it back a little more. That measurement isn't set in stone. Just make sure it is centered on the hood.

2014 Heat extractor on a 2010 hood

11:30 Thursday night and I am in a freezing garage setting the template. Per the ACS kit the measurement from the hood (windshield side) down is 14-13/16

Will remove the hood and remeasure in the morning

Happy new year all! Looks like the 2016 mod season will be starting early for me this year
