they been saying gas will hit 5.00 a gallon every year for the past 4 years, and it hasnt happened (well except for california lol)

however, its never risen this fast.. in winter time. Less drivers, oil prices somewhat steady (been sub 100$ barrel for 6 months+ straight now), easier refining process for winter blends.

The reports say its because alot of refineries are 'upgrading' their equipment to refine the oil shale crude, and production has been down across the board, hence the gas spikes. They have planned this for a few years now (im designing a few myself) and they did it at the right time for the upgrades. If they were to do it in the summer time, hello 10$ a gallon lol

yea it really is to bad... our economy started showing signs of decent turn around especially with the big 3 and ending the war. But I really believe jacking up gas prices for "upgrading" oil refineries, or from some recent giant storm on the east coast, will just slow our economy down because groceries and everything else tends to go up in price when gas does

Funny how surveys show the public blames gas taxes for high fuel costs. The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon and the California gas tax is 36 cents per gallon. Thats only 18% of the cost of a $4.00 gallon of gas. If I drive 1,500 miles per month at 20 mpg thats only $40.80 per month contribution toward road maintenence and expansion compared to other monthly costs for me:

$100+ cell phone
$100+ water bill
$45 trash bill
$160-400 electric bill

At $40 per month its no wonder our roads are crap!

Gas 87vs93 octane?

The manual says ok for regular gas, 87. Why do you use high octane? Also, anyone tried the Diablo Trinity?

tuned cars require 91-93.
You can run 87, but it is not recommended.

Plus back in the 80's they deregulated the petroluem industry. Been on the rise ever since. It makes me sick then they post their billion(+) profits for the quarter.....

Oh, here in Kansas 3.65 / 87.

but yea, lets cap profits and prices, just like we did in the 70's. I'm going to assume your too young to remember what happened, but the result was long lines at the station, even odd filling days, and limits on how many gallons you could buy. when told how much they could sell their product for regardless of costs the oil companies cut back production and sold more outside the US where those restrictions didn't apply.

I guess the saying is true, to forget history is to be doomed to repeat it.
Exxon Mobil profits over $16,000 per second. I won't argue with you. I just know that is too much profit, and we are the ones paying it.
