Thanks for the smile you put on the boys face. If this was the only reason a police officer pulled me over, they could do it daily. Cool story.

That is an awesome story. Ya gotta love that you made a kids birthday wish come true!
DarkneSS, putting a smile on a childs face is something you need to learn to appreciate no matter whose kid it is. Right or not, there's some things you just need to learn to shut up about and let happen. Your indignant attitude towards an incident that gave a child such joy speaks volumes of your very real inner darkness. Get over yourself.
We had a promotion here a few summers back where you would get pulled over for doing something RIGHT as well. Everyone enjoyed it except for the few people of the same mentality as Mr DarkneSS who got all butt-hurt about it.
My chance to make a birthday wish come true wasn't as cool as the OP - little Nicole visits PetSmart with her mom and so met me and my dog Turbo, who she fell in love with. They show up one day - her mom tells me she insisted on coming to PetSmart because it's her birthday and she wanted a birthday hug from Turbo. How sweet is that? This little girls birthday wish was to hug my dog? But it made her happy, me happy and mom happy. Turbo got a cookie...
DarkneSS, when was the last time you made a kids day doing something cool?

And then the officer and his brethren decide to give you the evil treatment anyway?

This is why LEO's shouldn't be doing stuff like this in the first place. Because it's bound to snowball and risks compromising law enforcement's integrity in the eyes of the public, and that has serious implications for all involved. Just look at the controversy over citizens recording interactions with police for an example.

Anyway I've said my piece, done threadjacking here.
I don't disagree. I'm just saying the way DarkneSS was talking in this thread, it seemed like he would have gone all high-and-mighty pretty fast.

I probably would have told the officer that I wouldn't feel comfortable driving the officer's child around in my car, but he'd be more than welcome to sit in it. I also probably would have welcomed him and his son to come out on a Friday night and check out all of Bumble Bee's brethren at our weekly meet-up.

But to go straight to the, "he's violating your rights," stance is pretty extreme and not very well thought out.

That is a "feel good" story. I like it.
And "Darkness's (or gloomy as I'd say) reaction makes this thread all the funnier.

Leave Tom Morello and Rage out of this!

I think it is a horrible abuse of power, however, if he was speeding... all is fair. The cop immediately apologized and explained there was no real problem, just wanted to make his son smile. I woulda done the same thing. Even if I was in a rush because anywhere you go, if you tell the story, what person would be mad at your tardiness? maybe darkneSS....

Good story; and Good Karma!

For those who are objecting to this I will add this little story and my point at the end.

A year ago in little league 8-10 yr olds the last place team was getting killed. The umpires little girl cam up to bat, had not gotten a hit all year and this was the last game of the season. So there were 2 outs, they are getting killed and a little girl who hadn't gotten a hit comes up to bat. Low and behold she gets a hit with no one on, yes you guessed it she runs the wrong way. She takes off for third, then second and made it safely. Everyone is screaming in the stands, unfortunately they are not screaming for her they are screaming at her wanting her called out because she ran the wrong way. They made such a fuss that the home plate umpire, her Dad, had to go out and call her out. She was crushed.

Sometimes there are rules, and sometimes the rules should be damed. This is one of those times IMHO.

I'm sorry, but life is cruel and rules are rules and sometimes we need to learn that early. If the umpire turns a blind eye what will that teach the little girl, if he calls her out what will that teach her. I don't know what is right or wrong, but I suppose we want to keep them innocent for as long as we can, but at the same time, we need to teach them lifes lessons. The cop taught his son that he has complete power to do whatever he wants, good or bad, is that something you want that little boy to learn and to take into manhood, maybe not!

I agree with rules and life lesson, but in todays society with PC and Rules etc... it is nice to see someone doing something nice for someone.

No one was hurt by allowing this little girl to stay on the field. Both coaches were in agreement but in this case the fans were outraged.

I understand that technically it may have not been the right thing for this officer to do this. But as long as the person he pulled over was not offended and it harmed no one. I see nothing wrong with making your little boys day a little brighter.

Every job in the USA has un-written benefits and we all know it. Coke delivery drivers get something, bread drivers, hotel clerks, trash haulers, you name it each job has some perk to it. For Law Enformenent they may get out of a ticket, they may get into areas that others can't so be it. I wouldn't be a COP on the street now a days for nothing too much responsiblity half the respect.

Maybe it is just me but too much made about not alot. I think when you can bring joy into someones life that is the important thing. Maybe I am wrong.

Good grief some of you have gotten so far removed and me centric to forget that making a young childs day is worth having your "rights" stepped on a little bit. I think it is a pretty cool story and I certainly would have had my day made should that have happened to me considering the innocence of youth is a precious thing.

You did a good thing OP by making that kids day.

Cheers
K

Cheese & Rice! What's with all the buzz kills in here? People seem to be missing the point of the story. GET OVER IT or GET OUT!

Anyway, that's awesome of you to do that for the boy. I would have done the same thing. I probably would have teared up, due to the sheer cuteness of that little boy! lol

I would just like to praise all our local, state and federal law enforcement personnel as well as our military personnel here and overseas. Get my point?
