But... judging from the footage I saw from Katrina with everybody shirking any self responsibility for their own well being, looting everything in sight and then murdering and raping multiple people in the Superdome during the nations worst natural disaster... I'd say your problem ins't your car... it's your neighbors and their tendency for malfeasance. : )
This bothers me. Over 5 years after Katrina and we still have this stigma on our beautiful city. I know it's ignorance and mainly the media to blame. Ignorance as in not knowing. Not knowing the truth.

Fact is, there was a shut down of communication across the city and state when Katrina hit. The rest of the world, just like any tidbit of sensationalism that can sell more advertising, just started making up $@*! because they didnt have anything real to report on. And what looting happened (sure some did in the worst neighborhoods, what city DOESNT have bad neighborhoods) and was caught on film was shown over and over like that was the only thing happening.

After it was said and over, no one went back to clarify that NO ONE was murdered inside the superdome. NO ONE was raped inside the superdome. The "rumor" of the 9 year old girl raped in the bathroom? The police investigated. No girl came forward. No family or friends. It was completely made up. But does the media go back and say "sorry we feed this trash into the nation's livingrooms for 6 days because we didnt know what was actually going on" ? No. We have people left with the idea that New Orleans is full of filth and low life citizens.

Sure, it isnt an utopia here. We have our share of problems. We have gangs, and we have drugs, and we have murders in the city, but for the most part they are isolated to parts of the city that your average tourist will never see. And Katrina was bad, but it isnt nearly as bad as the media decided they wanted to depict to the rest of the world.

Feel free to correct me if this is wrong...

And it isn't necessarily you or the Camaro, it's just inconsiderate drivers... With talking and texting, eating, putting on makeup, reading etc, and moving (not driving) a vehicle down the freeway, things are going to happen.... As numerous folks have mentioned, drive defensively, stay alert.....

Good Luck, and thats a good looking car...

I'll be in your area (more or less) before too long... First week of March, I have a class to attend in Lafayette. I'm hoping my car is out of the shop by then, if so, I'll be driving it...
Thanks. Yes, when I started her up this morning I looked for the light and it was the icon of the car with sqiggly lines behind it. So I guess that was to tell me I was losing traction? No permanent concern...

Incredibly well said.

I work offshore with a very large number of people that live in and around New Orleans... Many of them lost pretty much everything except their lives...

For those not familiar with them, the real stories that should have been covered were the stories of the real heros. Yes I am a retired firefighter paramedic, but I'm not talking about uniformed people, I'm talking about the average person that did so much for the community, for their neighbors, for strangers, etc... Those stories weren't "sensational enough" so they were not covered... It's a shame to... Some of the very best people I've ever met live in Louisiana, and quite a few of them are in or around New Orleans... I challenge anyone to go to a house in Louisiana and not get fed some of the best food you've ever eaten, whether you're hungry or not... If you do not get fed, the house you're visiting probably has transplanted peeps from somewhere else...

Most of them pulled on their work boots and rebuilt... whether the Government or their insurance helped them out or not... True Cajuns and Coon-A&&'s, regardless of race, creed, religion or color... are good people. PERIOD

Obviously this does not work in all cases, Some cars are not driven by their owners. Company, rental and borrowed vehicles come to mind. Basically people choose a vehicle to own because it makes a "statement" to others about themselves.
Same goes for Camaro owners. Please don't take what I am about to say as disrespect to Camaro owners. I am a Chevrolet enthusiast and a die-hard Camaro supporter by heart. But ask yourself why you bought a Camaro in the first place. It looks good and you want to be noticed. It is distinctive and it has a lot of performance. You are single, you are probably young and probably don't have children. You are not concerned about fuel mileage or high insurance costs. You realize the Camaro is a little impractical but you are willing to accept those trade-offs for the Camaro driving expereince. You probably spent too much money on a car that that has more power than it needs while only carrying two people comfortably. You understand the styling of the Camaro compromises it's utility and practicality. You probably like to exceed the speed limit and like to street race. You like to modify your car to make it more distinctive and noticeable. You take your driving seriously but you take risks too. You aren't too concerned about the politics of our dependence on foreign oil or the so called greenhouse gas emissions.
As seen in other posts, some Camaro owners think their cars attract cops and tickets.
So when you drive your Camaro out on the public roadways, be aware other people are watching you. You are driving a rolling billboard about you and your personality. People in other cars may judge you, stereotype you and profile you based on the car you choose to own. Some of those opinions may be some of the ones I mentioned. Some of those driver's may not agree your choice of car was the best in their opinion. Basically it comes down to class warfare and jealously.
We live in a high control society where our freedoms are being threatened by many fronts. The Camaro is at odds in the court of public opinion. This could be the reason why many members report having their cars keyed.
Unfortunately the future is bleak in my opinion. If the government has their way will all be driving tan, four door sedans shaped like a vitamin pill.
Wow, You sure profiled me. You must be a detective. You got about 50% right. I'm a 55yr old grandma. After driving 2 used vehicles over the last 35+ years I just wanted a nice car for a change and a little fun. And by the way, who goes to the car lot and says, show me the ugliest car you have?

Too True. It seems the newer or better car you have the more other peopel will push it. If I had to guess I would say new car == better insurance. Best bet relax and dont let them get to you.

Very true macwest. Staged collisions to commit insurance fraud only involves insured newer vehicles. I think one of them is called "swoop and squat".

OP, that just sounds like a daily occurrence out here in CA, regardless of what you are driving Seriously.

I used to live in Utah and you get just as many stupid people out there as well, they just do DIFFERENT stupid things.

I took no offense at this profile, upflying, but I just wanted to chime in: what you described as the "typical Camaro driver" is almost the exact opposite of me

Of course, mine is coming next month so maybe I'll change by then?

I'd shrug it off and try to stay relaxed when you're driving. A lot of people just aren't paying attention. Every now and then, a few drivers will be sporting fun.

Yep down right psychic.
I traded my prius in on my camaro, I get 18.5 MPG with the LS3 all short trip in town driving by taking off slower than most cars around me and coasting up to trafic lights. I do get to the drag strip now and then but never street race, have modified my car to improve performance and gas mileage. My politics are center left and I have a timer on my water heater and insulation, all compact florecent lights, use reclaimed water on my lawn, recycle..... I am married 17 years and take my daughter to school in my car most days. I do like the attention the 5th grade boys give my car- it is really cute. I am very concerned about our dependence on foreign oil but I would like to see more solar, wind, hydro for electricity, better public transportation, better community planning. Heck if we had light rail in my area I would have far fewer miles on my car. Oh- I modified my car I forgot that was mentioned. that one the detective got right.

I've had people think they have to show off, but other than that nothing really serious.

I mean passing me in a school zone of 20, on a road with no center stripes, is it really necessary?
