I got them today and are easy to install. They are very nice on the car and I am glad I bought them.

I'm sure the "designers" envisioned only V8 Camaros
Designers are responsible for the way the car looks... and could care less what engine gets thrown in it. And as far as looks are concerned.... SPLASH GUARDS are a NO NO. For that, why dont you get a black car-bra, curb scratchers, and hell... why not get a body-side molding for door dings while you are at it..... GRANDPA.
I dare you to find one picture of the concept car with splash guards. Or a sketch of the Camaro with splash guards.....

Go ahead........ Im waiting

Actually I know the Camaro designers very well and they care very much about the V8 engine. In general you're right about car designers and engines though. I'm sure I can find you a sketch of the Camaro with splash guards though if you really want one... they didn't fall out of a tree you know; they were sketched and designed and sculpted and engineered just like any car part. Also, before you go on about splashguards being a NO NO, look at the ones on the Corvette. And also consider that if the Z28 ever comes out with wider tires and and the same body it will have splashguards standard! And they will be designed by the Camaro designers.

The "care" i was referring to was meant to reflect job responsibilities. I agree the V-8 is the ultimate Camaro choice, and if I had more cash-flow, that would have been my motor of choice as well.

But IMO, splash guards are disruptive. Functional of course, but for me its not worth the sacrifice in style. And if I ever own the Z28, and they feature the same add-on splash guards as in the current catalog, then those babies are getting ripped off right away! Cant add a side skirt if you got splash guards.

I would be really surprised if the lead exterior designers worked on those guards. Obviously someone had to draw them, just as "someone" had to design the Aztek. Doesnt make it right, lol. I would assume they would have been done in an accessories studio, by a less-elite/prestigious designer. But what do i know? I dont work for GM. Just a guess.....

Either way.... Camaro rocks! And i know we can all agree on that

I was at a Corvette show this morning, over 40 Vettes of all stripes. A lot of owners came over and checked out my Camaro. Some asked if the splash gaurds were standard, I told them no that my car came with them already installed. I told them that the "purists" frown on such sacrilege.

To a person they asked why? Most said they look fine and looks like they'll protect your ride especially during the winter months and they look easy enough to remove anytime you want a different look.

Made sense to me.

Yes the splashguards were designed by the accessory studio but the elite/prestigious designer of the Camaro says he likes them so I think you should get them. :-] Also the Camaro's design director was the same person as the Aztek's, so that blows that theory! The guards do look "add-on" of course, but in the exact same way as the rear spoiler so I kind of like that about them too... I'll call them mud-spoilers from now on. I think they add some meat to the car right where it's needed.

Grandeos, your point is well taken, but in AZ with all the rocks and sand, tar ect. I think the splash guards look better than, pits, scratch's, and tar. As for guards not on concept cars and such, that's true, I also do not see them being driven on a day to day basis. The GM guards for the Camaro are a nice fit for what they are, they are better looking than the after market ones your grandpa probably had. Just my two cents, if I only drove my Camaro on the weekends I would probubly not get them, but I will be putting about 1400 miles per month on mine

Yes, what function does the fake mail slot and rear spoiler provide?

I agree they disrupt the flow of the body, however I think the protection they provide is worth it... guess i'll find out when i install them.

I have an ABM Camaro I can't find any paint matching splash guards for it. I would like to say that this is my daily driver and even a little bit of water sprays up on the paint and I'm guessing so are rocks. I want to put something on but I dont want silver and to have them painted and get a color match would be chancy! I wonder if GM will do a run at some point. Cross my fingers I guess

Update July 30/09
I just emailed GM about this hopefully they will have some good news for me. I will update again when I find out!
